Scotch-Irish: A Social History

I picked up this book at the Sugarlands Visitor Center in Great Smoky Mountains National Park. I have been doing genealogical research and a large part of my family comes from Scotch-Irish roots. This book has given me plenty of "ah-ha" moments, and repeatedly sent me scrambling to my family history files. I also learned that the Scotch-Irish branches of my family are "textbook cases," in that the dates, places, and routes all line up with the general history and migrations the book outlines. I am also convinced that the roots of this era's political strife trace firmly back to Scotland and Ulster. We are still fighting over things that date back to the Reformation, and most of the issues are political and economic, not religious.
