This book is the first collection of short stories about the famous detective, Sherlock Holmes. I liked some of the stories more than others. Doyle is a good writer and is able to show Holmes' intelligence and savvy without giving away the "whodunnit" and for me that is enjoyable. Holmes is generally one step ahead of the criminal.
Previously I had never read any of the Sherlock Holmes short stories. I feel as if these stories were as well constructed with regard to the plot, mystery, suspects, etc., as any full-length novel. I'm looking forward to The Memoirs of Sherlock Holmes which I will begin presently.
