Of the trilogy, this one took me longest to read, so the pacing wasn't as solid as in book one or three. However, the setting expands and just gets better! It was already my favorite aspect of the story, so the added layers and locations was awesome. The character work is a step up from book one simply because Ethan has had a pretty significant recalibration on what's important, and is thinking bigger than himself. The emotional impact of this one isn't as great, simply because we know more so we're not as thrilled, terrified, or confused. That said, the stakes are at an all-time high, the themes hit home, and the end is a banger. I had a great time with this one, and it delivered what I needed to stay in the story and stay invested to the end. It's got me hyped for an epic conclusion in book 3.
