Curious about your take on the racial aspects of the book. I felt it to be "too much" by today's standards. I know that it was intended, as far as I understand, to point a finger at the social ills of the time, but it still made me cringe. I am married to a black woman and teach in a predominantly black and Latino community, so I'm sure that has something to do with it. I would be interested to hear your thoughts.
