This novel is a laugh riot and a slow journey to deciding what makes a person real. I was unsurprised to see the author name check Mo Xiang Tong Xiu in the acknowledgements. I picked it up because the blurb gave me Scum Villain vibes, and reading further The Emperor seemed very Yiling Laozu at first description. Still, Brennan goes in an entirely original direction and the comedic timing is on beat. I highly recommend it for fantasy readers looking for something light.
