I had every intention of reading this entire series I was 18 when Twilight was published and I felt I missed out on a cultural phenomenon by not having read them then but while I managed to machete-hack my way through the messy, nonsensical jungle of the first book, I’m simply not strong enough for New Moon. It’s a book about a technically-legal woman who falls into the most boring cult in the world. She isn’t a particularly impressive get for them (she has never been bothered with a thought or idea of any significance so herding her into their flock wasn’t exactly tricky) but they’re weird about it anyway. Their son/brother loves her because he is also as dull as a rusty blade, and the entire plot revolves around her having zero ambition except to be with this guy. No plans beyond that, no solutions to the logistical troubles that bedevil them except “make me a vampire too, no consideration for poor Charlie and how heartbroken he’ll be for his idiot daughter.

Ladies, if he wanted to, he would. And by that I mean give you a straight answer instead of staring off into the distance with his perfect angel’s jaw working. Also please have hobbies outside of pining for a man. All of us, even Pants, are better than that.

5.33% "these books are so bewildering to me because they’re obviously not well-written by any means and yet manage to inspire such bone-deep feelings in me that I’m taken aback by them. For example, the line “Romeo was one of my favorite fictional characters. I read it and ended up staring at the wall for several minutes because it’s such an insipid, aggressively boring opinion that I’m blown away. Blown away."

Carolyn Wish I'd DNF'd. I read the whole series for no reason other than principles and I have regrets.

Lydia I read them when I was 15 and I think that’s the only acceptable age to read them tbh. I would only ever reread them for nostalgia reasons if I wanted to revisit my overpowering past teenage angst.

Dallas Reeves Dang! That’s crazy. I just reread them again last year after visiting Forks on my road trip and I gave every single one of them 5 stars all over again. 😅

Vanessa I rewatch the movies at least once a year 🤣

Ana Delallata I think it’s only okay to actually enjoy this series when you’re a teenager, just like the movies lol. I loved them back then but I have not reread or rewatched it because I KNOW it will not be the same

Amanda New moon is the worse of the series. It’s crazy how some of us absolutely love these books and where crazy twihearts and some people hate it with a passion.

Clarissa I rewatch the movies just to make fun of how bad they are. But I don’t think I could ever re-read them. Definitely a teenage read only for me.
