The Graveyard Book

This was such a beautiful book about growing up,changes, and how to find one's place in this world. The fact that those themes took place within a story that involved murder, ghosts, and paranormal mystery made it all the more intriguing for me.
I've read a few of Gaiman's adult books. He does a fantastic job of addressing deep issues and themes within a fantasy setting. In fact, sometimes his books are a little too rich that way; it sometimes takes you out of the story for a bit- you need quite a bit of time to digest what you've read.
This book was just the right amount of engaging story and thought-provoking issues. I read this over the course of two months with my two 7 year olds, and we've had some pretty thoughtful conversations about things that took place in this book and how it relates to things they have experienced so far.
I'd recommend this book to everyone!

"This is such a cute book! I'm reading it with the kids, but I would definitely read it on my own, too."

"Starting to get good. Gaiman always seems to take quite a while to build up to intersting plot points (although this book started out VERY interesting, but then slowed down a bit after that), but he's awesome with building up a world and creating vivid setting which really pay off with making the plot even more exciting near the end of his books."
