Upon reading the first chapter - I knew this wouldn’t get more than 3 stars. It’s a formula. A formula that works, yes�� but still, been there - done that.

I saw a lot of reviews of people saying they liked the FMC�� I didn’t like her�� she was so racist! And she was so fickle. Leaving her 14yo sister to fend for herself really didn’t sit right with me�� before leaving, she says that the neighbours helped them out and she knows she won’t be completely alone, but about 30 pages later - she says she was always alone. Idk. She was just always saying one thing and then saying another a few chapters later. At the beginning of the book, she says that she’s not a soft mortal and can defend herself�� when? How many times did the MMC save her? I just feel like I was sold a character and ended up reading about a completely different one. And the comments she was making about the ‘halflings’�� I mean, the racism was just jumping in my face every other page. And she was really horrible to the other characters too�� at some point, she talks about how she had to toughen up because people always abandon her but her father was killed? It’s a lot of little things that didn’t end up making sense with her. To throw a chosen one trope at the end too��

This is really me nitpicking but every time I see nicknames in books, I always wonder how I’d react if someone nicknamed me upon our first interaction. Am I the only one who thinks it’s so weird?🥲 completely out of place. And of course, her heart flutters upon meeting him.
