I'm just so disappointed. I loved the short story "The Rain is a Lie" and was really looking forward to reading more in that world. I imagined a world of technology and politics. What I got was a YA mixed up love story trying to be the Hunger Games.

Too much angst filled romance, too many plot points that are not fully developed, and the main character really got on my nerves with her snotty 16year old attitude. Okay, to be fair she is a 16year old.
She hardly gets to weave, which seemed like the most interesting part of the story. Too much is made of all the boys she's falling in love with. Or not falling in love with.
The end was a ridiculous mad scramble to hurry you into book two. I don't care enough to read it.
There was not enough about the actual world, just too much shown that was wrong with it. And Adelice just wasn't a protagonist I could connect with enough to make me want to stay in this world.

Spoilers (view spoiler)[ Adelice - still not sure how to say this name- has too much thrown at her, and us, about the world. Her capture at the beginning was a rush and jumbled affair. The fact that they put her in the dungeon, twice, and then didn't even say anything about it later was absurd. And she just takes it, like, yeah, I totally know what prison and starving and stuff is. Adelice, you've grown up in a perfect world, when would you have had a chance to even know about this stuff let alone not totally freak out?! Plus, the minute you're released you start FLIRTING!
Then there's the part where she may have discovered being ripped isn't being dead. And the part where she discovers there are revolutionaries in the Covenant. And the part where the second in command lady hates her guts. And did we mention that women are completely subordinate to men so you can't meet boys other than your father and you can't wear make-up (dear god did they go on about make-up.). And your two flirting buddies are brothers (how dis THAT escape everyone's notice?)
Oh yeah, and we're all actually living in some Matrix-esque version of Earth which no one remembers. (hide spoiler)]
