Phoebe has always wanted to stay at the Cornwall Inn. Recent circumstances has pushed her to finally decide to splurge on a night at the inn. When she arrives, the flurry of a wedding is underway. Phoebe is the only person staying at the inn who isn't attending the wedding. She tries to keep to herself, but the bride and guests keep pulling them into their conversations and confiding in her. This was not how her night at the Cornwall Inn was supposed to go.
I'm going to be honest - I nearly abandoned this book several times in third of the book. It's not that it wasn't good. Rather, there were a couple of topics in the book that had me wanting to run the other way. They were too close to home and I didn't know if I was emotionally capable of processing this book. I'm glad I kept on listening to it.
The first words that come to my mind to describe this book are unexpected, clever, and weird. I unexpectedly really liked the story, even though it was very weird and had some potentially hazardous triggers for me. The book was so clever and so interesting that I couldn't stop playing it. I needed to know how the story would play out. I needed to know that Phoebe would be ok in the end.
This book was about the complications and nuance of relationships. It was a character-driven novel with some very awesomely weird characters. Alison Espach got very creative with the characters and how it all came together in the end.
⚠️: infertility, suicidal thoughts and attempt, mention of: infidelity, divorce, cancer, death of a love one
