it was amazing
bookshelves: historical-romance

This was the november pick for Vaginal Fantasy Book club and I LOVED it! I have always been fond of the Tudors, as a kid I always fancied myself somewhat of an Anne Boleyn lover, she was my favorite of the poor wives, so this delving into her history, and her sister's especially, was super fascinating. It isn't a standard smutty romance, and you end up sympathizing a lot with how women were treated, how Henry the 8th behaved and WHY he did what he did. I have done some research (ie read Wikipedia haha) since, and of course this isn't TOTALLY accurate, but the drama of it is very entertaining in a sort of soapy-history sort of way.

Jess The Tudor Court #2? What's the first one called? I can't bear to read a second in a series w/o reading the first and this sounds like a very interesting series!

Claire Philippa Gregory also wrote one from the perspective of Catherine of Aragorn, but it was written after this and you don't have to have read it to enjoy this one (I actually think this is the best in this series by far!).

I haven't read this in a while, will have to pick it up again soon :)

Celise Are you planning on reading the first one in the series, The Constant Princess? I really recommend it, from the perspective of Catherine (as she spells it), the first wife.

Luci I really enjoyed The Constant Princess. I thought Gregory really did a good job of breathing life into Catherine, who is usually portrayed as dowdy and boring.

It was wonderful. It offered a perspective that has made Catherine my favourite of the six.

Luci I really liked how Gregory tied in the fighting spirit of Catherine's parents (Ferdinand and Isabella) and pulled into what Catherine faced. I thought that was a neat twist on the story.

I've seen the movie. It was pretty good. :) Didn't realize it was based off a book until now though. :D

Sofie I read it many years ago and i LOved it. There are more books in the series.

Celise One thing to keep in mind is that the series is wildly inaccurate. There is more evidence to support that Mary never even slept with Henry. The children were definitely not his. But the series is highly entertaining.

Diane Quist I read this book years ago! To this day, it remains one I think about often (so is Handmaids Tale by Margaret Atwood). I love it how a book captivates you so completely and then continues its literary course through thoughts and recourse :)

Jailen The book was such a good book

victoria I loved this book. It was an amazing story but I feel the portrayal of Anne was very harsh. In my opinion Anne was a victim of her time and was a young girl trapped by the king. In those days you never said no to the king. So in my opinion she was forced into this situation and did the best she could with something she could not help.
