A Favourite of the Gods

Written in opposition to a set of conventional values that are no longer the convention, so a lot of what must have been challenging when it was written is now less so.
Bedford has a dry tone that's a lot of fun to spend time with, but this was her first piece of fiction (she was a legal historian) and she's a little less sure of herself than she was in the more focused sequel, A Compass Error.
