Whereas most military history books tend to describe in more general terms what a battle was like, this book focuses on what individual soldiers actually experienced. It's very eye-opening and brutal in its honesty. I think it should be required reading not just for war historians but for politicians who are so quick to send others to fight and suffer and die.
