it was ok

First, a question. YA or not? I didn't think that it was, but, while reading kept thinking it read like a less-good Twilight. I also didn't realize until after I finished that the author is in her early twenties, but that's no excuse - look at what Zadie Smith was doing at that age.

So, I didn't like it - I get that these types of paranormal books are incredibly popular, and I don't normally read them, but this sounded like a decent, light read. It wasn't. It was melodramatic and silly, filled with bullshit like "ethereal threshold" and characters named so that you can decide if they are good are evil just by their names: Thuban Sargas? Terebell Sheratan? Just call them Baddy McKiller and Sweetness Bravery and call it a day.

Paige was irritating, spoiled and ungrateful. Jaxson was clearly awful and her "chosen" profession meant an early death - so I agree with Gomeisa (the villain), "Was it so terrible here, 40?" It certainly wasn't for Paige and her Warden. And, ugh. The clunky love story. Any reader sees what is happening from the first second Paige is in Shoel I. Idiot Paige gets it on page 377. The clumsy set-up for the sequel was painful with the hapless Seb...."and there's a secret." Please. Who cares? Finishing it was a chore, and this will be my last visit to the world of the Scion.
