really liked it

I have not read any of David Hine's work previously, and to my knowledge he has a reputation for writing good crime procedurals. He takes his crime procedural knowledge and moves it to a science fiction setting. In doing so he executes a very good tale.

On a low tech planet where an interstellar corporation has established a mining operation the Union sends an investigative team to look into a series of brutal murders. It appears wild animals are responsible for the murders, but not all is at it appears (of course, otherwise where would the story be).

Hine creates an interesting world. One where acid rain can literally kill you, and mysteries abound about the native population. There is greed and corruption to be dealt with, and while some may say Hine mined CSI for stock characters these people feel like Hine's own and not something ripped from a CBS television show.

My complaint is that as of yet there is no announcement of volume two as the story is not complete in volume one. And, yes I would read volume two.
