I really like Cashore's stories. I love the world she has created, and I like her characters. That said, I don't love the characters and for some reason, I have not once been able to relate to a person she has written. If not for that I feel like I would be able to enjoy her books much more. Some people can write their characters in a way so that you feel you are the character. Cashore doesn't. I always feel like I'm a spectator, which is unfortunate. I didn't like this book as much as Graceling simply because I prefer the idea of Gracelings to the idea of monsters. Oh well. Still worth a read, so pick it up from your library if you get a chance.
