it was amazing

This book wasn't my favorite in the series. It wasn't at all what I expected it to be (not in a bad way, it just went in a completely different direction). But it was an accurate portrayal of the way I think Katniss's world would have been.

It was, at times, heart-breaking. Lives were lost. Things happen that just killed me and made my heart ache for the characters. There is a ton of irony and themes of human cruelty that it's just totally mind-blowing.

I think it's important to remember when reading this book that it's all told from Katniss's first person POV. So you'll see the way she reacts - or fails to react - to circumstances. That considered, I think the pacing and attention paid to details was just right. The writing was beautiful and moving. The characters revealed new layers, and we met new characters who managed to burrow their way into our hearts.

I think that's about all I can say without venturing into spoilers.

All in all, I think this was the right way to end the series. The right thing to do to show the end of Katniss's story.
