Ok, so I was at the library today wondering what else I could borrow. 'The Prince' popped up nicely at the right time - well actually I wanted another book, but only this was available. I was thrilled that it was a thinnish manuscript - I figured a whole mound of text won't do gracias to my time anyhow. So I picked it up, read the introduction and was a bit lost.

Never giving up, I flipped to the back and began again. It didn't fit, so I moved to the area where there was small chapters - the heart of the book. And I got it. Heartless? No, maybe I haven't read that part. But a part of me is happy to read a classic manual - I read too many contemporary literature it almost seems like a diluted form of knowledge, if there is such a thing. As someone told me, it is better to read the original. Here I am. Will be back once I am done. Au Revoir.

Now I have read the book - and I have to admit it took me repetitious re reading, which was obviously still not enough, but I have decided to shelve it for now. The book is concise and very real. Yet it's knowledge remains locked within the words that contain them. What will make one truly understand what Machiavelli is trying to say? Experience. Experience will light the book afire and pave the way for a direct conversation between you and the author.

I have met a few Machiavellian types, and I doubt they have even read this book. Power and strategy is innate - some people have it in them to be like a fox and a lion - even fox and sheep - all at once.

Whilst I don't doubt that the strategies can and are being used in modern times, I would think that to adapt it closer to home, you will find social networks besieged by mini Machiavellis - the sociopath. You can even find this in office politics or family warfare. Just be a bit creative and you can see that it is the essence of human power that transcends the generations.

Been interested in power books after encounters with powermongers that stumped my moral sensibilities. This book nicely introduced me to it further, and assured me that such forces are indeed real and rife wherever.
