I read it in my third year of high school and remember hardly any of it. The best way to describe this book is "bland". Callie is an unrealistic farce of a teenage character, pliable and unsympathetic. It reads like it was written by someone who had never actually experienced anything relating to the subject, but still wanted to take a soapbox stand about it. Unfortunately, that's exactly the case with this author.
One of the biggest things I remember is that, at some point, Callie exchanges self-injury for exercise EDNOS. Although McCormick clearly wants the reader to believe that Callie's running obsession is healthy, her own writing betrays her - Callie's behavior is not healthy or healing, which was obvious even to my unhealthy, self-hating mind.
Steer clear. Don't give this to anyone under the age of 30 unless you want to laugh at it with them. This ridiculous and condescending novel will prove harmful if taken seriously.
