it was ok

Pretentious. Overblown. Empty. I just don’t understand how so many people found the writing and the story to be meaningful. I thought that the observations of an obviously mentally ill patient did not seem beautiful and magical. They were just basically his hallucinations the underground horses, the little men in the wall. Give me a break. The story of “the lady and “the priest was somewhat interesting, but that story was diluted by too many other minor plot lines. And I can’t see why those 2 characters had to remain nameless. That seems , also, like some attempt at being mysterious, magical, or literary. Yes, this prison was a horrible place to be. SO, why call it an enchanted place? Is that the narrator’s hallucination, too? I suppose so, but that doesn’t make it meaningful.
