bookshelves: fantasy-and-scifi, fiction, truly-dreadful

Not at all representative of the general quality of the author's work. If this is your first read with Kay, I understand your rejection, but please try ANYTHING else and give him another chance. This is Evil Twin Imposter Kay, not real Kay, I promise!

Nate Dorward I hope you're right. A GG Kay fan friend of mine recommended this as a good place to start.... I've taken one month to read the damn thing, and I'm finding it really hard to give the guy another chance, it's THAT painful.

Tria Hm. Not sure about this review, because this was my first GGK novel and I loved it, so to say all his others are so drastically different might be a bit off-putting to others in my situation who read that. I don't find it so - just less dense in terms of prose and multiple plot threads, and since it was reputedly written for his sons that seems fair to me. But it does make it an easier introit for those who might perhaps have a tough time getting into one of his longer novels, and could give them the expectations and determination to persevere with those.

I really do *not* see how liking this and liking GGK's other works seems to have set up such divided camps among his fans... I really don't.

Jamie Gorton Thanks, this was the first book I read by him (8 years ago) and I never went back for more . . . I'll try something else!
