did not like it

I had a difficult time starting (and finishing) this book. The story, about a country whose name was erased from the world and none but its people can speak or know it, was intriguing. Unfortunately it did not live up to its promise. The biggest problem was the writing, which I would describe as "bossy." It Told me what to think about the world and the characters and their actions, and didn't support what it was Telling with some action. This issue became more extreme in the later half of the book, where characters make some decisions seemingly out of the blue, leaving me the reader completely unconvinced. Toward the end the plot had a strong "cobbled together" feel which I disliked. Overall, Tigana was a tedious read.
