Kick-Ass

This is the second time I've finished a Mark Millar tale and wondered if he was extending a middle finger towards the reader, or if he got 2/3 thru the story and realized he didn't know how to end the story (this is why I remain conflicted on Wanted). And, I am conflicted over Kick-Ass. The concept is good. Alienated teenager decides to become a real-life superhero and gets his ass kicked. But the confrontation with the mob, and the revelation of Big Daddy's back story, the ending big screen Hollywood action/fight scene makes the book feel like it took a 180 from the first 1/2-2/3 of the story. After reading this and seeing the movie trailer I do understand why Hit-Girl will be the movie's break-out character and even in the book she is about the only one who I can feel any sorrow for.
