really liked it

Overall, I loved this, and I can't wait to start Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban today.

Quick thoughts on the things that stood out to me:

Wow, the Dursleys were even more loathsome in this book than the first.
I love the Weasleys even more than I already did.
I am so glad my mother never sent me a Howler.
I thought Dobby was annoying in the movie (which I saw when it came out over a decade ago, not having read the book) but I thought he was awesome in the book. In fact, we rewatched the movie last night, and not only was it as unsatisfying as I remember it, it's just a shit adaptation of this book.
I thought it was delightful that (view spoiler).
Tom Riddle's diary was really, really awesome. The entire idea and execution were fantastic.

I loved it when Dumbledore told Harry, "It is our choices, Harry, that show what we truly are, far more than our abilities." I hope that, as the series goes on, we have more scenes with him, because I really love his wisdom.

My minor complaints seem a little nitpicky, and I suppose that if I'm going to suspend disbelief to accept that wizards are real, I should be able to accept that (view spoiler) and (view spoiler), but I'm an adult and if I'd read this as a kid I wouldn't have cared for a single moment.

Mkittysamom Oh Wil you just reading Harry potter now? Dumbledore and Hagrid were my favorites...I have a thing for old wizards like Gandalf and others!

message 2: by Amy (new) - rated it 4 stars

Amy The Prisoner of Azkaban is my favorite. It may be that I had to wait a long time between it and the Goblet of Fire and had a lot of time to think about what might happen.

Corey You're right about the Dursleys being meaner in this book, I thought even Malfoy was meaner. Hagrids always been my favorite character.

Chechoui You're just now reading HP?! How fun for you! Enjoy!

Jason Seftas Ha!! Guess I'm not the only one who hasn't gotten around to reading these yet. You're a week ahead of me though, I'll have to catch up.

Theresa Jackson Nothing like Harry! Wish there was more.

Kevin They are pretty awesome books although the first 2 were a little slow. Once you realize that she wrote them so they would advance with her readers' levels of understanding, you become more accepting of them.

Steve Caraballo You will come to realize just how crappy the movies were as you continue reading. I really enjoyed the entire series and have been thinking about reading it all over.

DeadlyHausfrau The second book is actually my least favorite. You're about to get into my tied-for-favorite one now. POA is still my "I feel like rereading Harry Potter" go-to".

message 10: by Mel (new) - rated it 5 stars

Mel I'm unbelievably jealous you're reading them for the first time... I wish I could again! There's plenty of awesome advice to come from Dumbledore, don't you worry about that!. You are embarking on my favourite literature journey ever... Enjoy!

Jessica Roundtree Prisoner of Azkaban is my favorite of the HP series.

Selena Don't worry about being nitpicky. There are podcasts devoted to this sort of thing. My friends and I just took about 20 hours to nitpick each of the first two books. Also glad I'm not the only one who liked the books better.

Nazaneen U should read this book

WinniePooh01 Absolutely love this book. J.K. Rowling is one of my favorite authors. And we have a few things in common! We both like stuff and things! If your interested in being friends, I will accept your request!

´Ü´Çë Oh, I feel so sorry that you have to read all the parts where people die. It crushed me when I read it. :(

Kathy Sharp I just reread the series for probably the fifth time and let me tell you, you always want moere Dumbledore! I'm stil holding out hope that there's a Dumbledore biography coming (even though I know there isn't *sigh*). Also, while you definitely have a point about Heemione's note, Fawkes shows up when Harry tells Riddle how great Dumbleore is that even Voldemort is afraid of him. It was his loyalty to Dumbleore that called Fawkes. Sorry, my geek is showing, I'm going to go now! Enjoy the rest of the series!

Batman "Jake" cool book

Silvia Kay I love Harry Potter! I grew up reading it and learnt most of my English that way. Good for you that you still have so many HP books ahead of you! :)

message 20: by Melissa Wyatt (new)

Melissa Wyatt loved all of them. I bought the set when my six year old son was born and can't wait to read them to him!!

message 21: by X (new) - rated it 5 stars

X deathly hollows the best by far, dont know if rowling is gona publish any more books right? gooday mates!

JASON I thought Dumbledore explained that Faux will appear to anybody who is extremely loyal to Dumbledore. Seem to remember that being explained in the movie.

Cheryl R. Wade By the time you've finished this book, I'll have finished the series for like the fifth time. Harry Potter is my "ish". Completely and totally in awe of everything that is Potter made. And that's from the heart.

message 24: by Liam (new)

Alan Braswell Ron and his brothers pick up Harry in their flying car that is not seen by the muggles. It is only when Dobby the house elf goes outside a house and prevents Harry and Ron from catching the train that Ron suggest using the flying car. Absent from this scene is Ron's mother.

Curtis Teiken I love it

Curtis Teiken I love it I want to read it again.

c.clayton I'm rally improve you state you read skill

Dylan Tiangco I agree with many of your points. I totally agree with you on your point about your mom ever sending you a Howler. If I were to receive a howler, I would be absolutely embarrassed; it would be completely humiliating to have a screaming letter from my mom in front of my entire school. I also agree with your take on the movie. Usually (if not always), the books are always better than the movies because of all the detail and fun chapters that sometimes need to be cut out of the movie. Overall, your points were very realistic and I think I enjoyed Chamber of Secrets as much as you.

kassy bingham were you in the big bang theory

the strange pleb WIL WHEATON YOUR AN AUTHOR OMG OMG OMG

Nathan good review wil. I agree.I'm a kid so I don't care at all that the adults don't find the paper in heremione's hand or that fawks gets in the chamber.Like I said i'm just a kid

Amber The feral ford-anglia is one of my favourite characters in the whole series
