I selected this book because I was intrigued by the book's premise: a domestic drama/thriller about a single mom with two sons who receives news that her estranged husband was murdered. One of the mom's sons is adopted.

I listened to the book's audio version that included 12 hours of audio. The book was very, very slow-paced and repetitive and could have easily been an 8-hour audiobook -- with no information lost.

The story is unveiled through the POV of the mother (Jessica) and correspondence between Jessica's son's and husband's birthmothers. Readers also hear updates from police investigators as well as information about random women. When the book ends, readers learn the significance of the random women. Issues about adoption are also explored in depth.

I struggled to finish this book and was only able to do so because the narration was excellent. Although the author's character development was strong and the book's premise was compelling -- the execution was poor and, therefore, this book was a 2-star read (rounded up) for me.

Karen Great review. Sometimes when a story drags or I just can’t wait for it to be over already, I speed up my narration setting. Sure helps. 😉

Holly B (slower pace!) Ugh, so sorry it wasn't better. I guess I read it, but don't remember a thing! 😂
