Mimmy (roxym) | 208 comments Hey Laura!

Please see your May picks below.

May is Loyalty Month - rec a book that is from a favorite author or series you love:
Halfway to the Grave (The Night Huntress #1) by Jeaniene Frost. I adore Cat, the half human/half vampire slayer.

May is Graduation Time - rec a YA book Hourglass by Myra McEntire or The Language of Flowers by Vanessa Diffenbaugh. Hourglass has elements of time travel and the paranormal. Language deals with homelessness and learning independence. I find YA annoying if it is too trendy and stereotypically teen angst-ish. I liked both of these books because those characteristics didn’t dominate the stories.

International Space Day, May 4 - rec a book that is set in an alternate universe
Ready Player One by Ernest Cline, which seemed to be EVERYWHERE last year and also seems to be on many recommendations here. Or Seduce Me in Dreams (A Three Worlds Novel #1) by Jacquelyn Frank

Join Hands Day, May 4 - rec an author your pickee hasn't read before or a genre your pickee normally doesn't read Naked in Death by J.D. Robb. Naked was recommended to me in last month’s PIFM challenge and I’m completely obsessed with the series.

Tourist Appreciation Day, May 6 - rec a book that is set in a place you've visited or somewhere you'd like to visit Wicked Ties by Shayla Black, set in Lafayette, Louisiana. Growing up in Texas, we’d visit New Orleans for Mardi Gras; so much fun! Or One Night in L.A. by Sue Holston, from your TBR. I have lots of family on the West Coast and visit LA every few months.

National Teacher Day, May 8 - rec a nonfiction book that you enjoyed or a classic
Provenance by Laney Salisbury; I found this fascinating as it traced art forgery investigations. I realize that it’s probably not so interesting to many other people. Or The Glass Castle by Jeannette Walls.

Armed Forces Day, May 18 - since being in the armed services can be scary, pick a book that is a thriller or scary, or pick a book that is a military or special ops series

The Darkest Hour (KGI Series #1) by Maya Banks, since you enjoyed book 1 of Maya’s McCabe Trilogy. I’ve read the first two books in this series.

Maritime Day, May 22 - pick a book that would be a great beach read
Perfect for the Beach, short stories by Lori Foster, Erin McCarthy and others. Quick and easy read!

Buddy Reads: Buddy reads are not optional picks. You must pick one for each category, however, you are not required to do a buddy read if your schedule won't let you fit it in :)

Clean Up Your Room Day, May 10 - rec a book that is one of the oldest on your pickees TBR list that you'd like to read as well
When You Dare by Lori Foster

Chocolate Chip day, May 15 - Pick a book with a yummy cover Viscount Breckenridge to the Rescue (The Cynster Sisters Trilogy #1) by Stephanie Laurens. I’m such a historical fiction/romance reader that nearly all my book covers look like this!

Let me know what you think and happy reading!

message 155: by MountainKat, Moderator (new)

MountainKat | 30417 comments Cacophony, Here are my picks for you! I hope you can find something you like. This wasn't easy, every book I thought of you had already read!

May is Loyalty Month - I think the Virgin River series is like comfort food! It looks like you have enjoyed them too, so how about continuing with Forbidden Falls? Another suggestion is First Drop of Crimson, it isn't about Cat and Bones, but Denise and Spade are pretty good too!

May is Graduation Month - I am not a huge fan of YA, but I did enjoy Perfect Chemistry, maybe you will too.

International Space Day, May 4th - This is a tough one... How about Lover Reborn? You know you want to know what happens next... Or maybe, Pleasure Unbound?

Join Hands Day, May 4th - Two new authors for you that I love, Something About You by Julie James and Flat-Out Sexy by Erin McCarthy. Both books are very good!

Tourist Appreciation Day, May 6th - One of my favorite places in the world is the Pacific Northwest, so I'm suggesting Rainshadow Road. The place on the top of my list to visit if I ever get the time and money is Ireland so I am also going to suggest a couple of books by Karen Marie Moning, Faefever (I think that is where you are in that series) and Kiss of the Highlander. I have only read the first of the Fever books, but I want to get back to them and I think Kiss of the Highlander is one of the most romantic books I've ever read!

National Teacher Day, May 8th - I only read a little non-fiction, but I read Mennonite in a Little Black Dress: A Memoir of Going Home for book club last year and really liked it.

Armed Forces Day, May 18th - Two more suggestions, The Darkest Hour and Out Of Her League, I really liked both of them!

Maritime Day, May 22nd - I recently read Simply Irresistible and thought it was a lot of fun and really sweet - perfect beach read IMO! Another idea, Two for the Dough, Stephanie Plum is always good for a giggle.

Buddy Reads:
Clean Up Your Room Day, May 10th - Cut & Run has been your TBR a while and on mine too! If you are interested, I would be happy to read it with you.

Chocolate Chip Day, May15th - Too Hot To Touch (Rising Star Chef #1) by Louisa Edwards , I'm not sure I can stop drooling over that cover long enough to read it! But I am willing to try if you are!

I didn't like my choices, I loved my choices & did a happy dance. We can do Dragon Warrior as a buddy I can probably start mid week.

Elke (ejurca) | 1810 comments Nicole,

Here your picks, if you don't like them let me know and I will try again! Happy Reading!

May is loyalty month: Some Girls Bite by Chloe Neill. I have a lot of favorites both authors and series, but figured I would recommend a fave series I am reading now.

May is graduation time: My Blood Approves by Amanda Hocking. Her books are pretty good!

International space day: Across the Universe by Beth Revis. I don't have any of the genre on my shelves, but I found one on yours!

Join hands day: Fifty Shades of Grey by E.L. James. I didn't see any of the "Hot & Steamy" genre on your shelves....this one is a good one! ;)

Tourist appreciation day: Darkfever by Karen Marie Moning. I would love to visit Ireland!!

National teacher day: Secret Garden by Frances Hodgson Burnett. I read this a long time ago, but it is one of my favorite classics!

Armed forces day: The Darkest Hour by Maya Banks. It's the first book in a really good series. The guys are all military/special ops!

Maritime Day: The Next Always by Nora Roberts. This would be a great beach read, plus I see you like Nora Roberts!

Buddy Reads

Clean up your room day:
Magic Bites by Ilona Andrews.

Chocolate chip day: Night Pleasures by Sherrilyn Kenyon. Yummy cover!

Let me know about the buddy reads...

Daffodil (daffodil--ripcranberry) | 1058 comments Penney I started looking at your shelves right after the picks were posted, but ... human life interferes. We're having a cookout for my Dad's 70th birthday today and my brother & his family from Tenn. got into town yesterday to join the party. I'll finish this up and post your picks tomorrow.

These are awesome choices. I have narrowed it down to five choices. I usually read one or two books for this challenge. The ones that I am going to pick from are A Game of Thrones, First Grave on the Right, Vampire Academy, Thirst No. 1, or An Unforgettable Lady.
I will keep you posted and thanks again. =0)

Thank you so much for the recommendations, I've already started requesting a bunch of them from the library so I'll see which one's I get first! Thanks again!

Suzanne (esmerelda1) | 2244 comments Hey Susan (susayq)! I hope you enjoy my book picks for you!

May is Loyalty Month - rec a book that is from a favorite author or series you love
I love Sarah Addison Allen, so I’m going to recommend The Peach Keeper and Garden Spells! I’m also going to recommend The Help, I didn’t see it on your bookshelf so if you haven’t read it yet, it’s an awesome read (even if you have seen the movie, the book is totally worth reading)!

May is Graduation Time - rec a YA book
I just finished reading Firelight by Sophie Jordan and really enjoyed it! Dead Beautiful by Yvonne Woon is also pretty good! And I’ve seen you haven’t read Hunger Games by Suzanne Collins, so I’m definitely going to add that one on there as well!

International Space Day, May 4 - rec a book that is set in an alternate universe
I LOVE Kim Harrison, she is so funny! I’ve loved every book by her so far. Also Unholy Ghosts by Stacia Kane is awesome, her main character is so flawed but you still root for her.

Join Hands Day, May 4 - rec an author your pickee hasn't read before or a genre your pickee normally doesn't read
I’ve gotten into this series of Manga/Comic books called Amulet, so I’ll recommend book 1.

Tourist Appreciation Day, May 6 - rec a book that is set in a place you've visited or somewhere you'd like to visit
I have a dream of going to Ireland with my husband and my best friend and her hubby and getting completely trashed on Guinness. So I’ll recommend Darkfever by Karen Marie Moning. I also want to take my hubby and my best friend to New York City, I love broadway musicals, even though they hate them. So, I’ll recommend Midnight in Death and Holiday in Death by J.D. Robb.

National Teacher Day, May 8 - rec a nonfiction book that you enjoyed or a classic
This week in my home town, one of our professors at IU named Jill Bolte Taylor is having a townwide exhibit. She’s a brain scientist and also an artist and she is having 12 artist (and anatomically correct) brains displayed all over town that were made by local artists. This sounds really neat, so I’m going recommend her book called My stroke of Insight, it’s her personal account of what happened when she had a stroke and how she recovered, it’s amazing and she’s an amazing woman who I’ve had the pleasure of meeting and spending time with (before she was famous and wrote this book). Highly recommend everyone should read this book!

Armed Forces Day, May 18 - since being in the armed services can be scary, pick a book that is a thriller or scary, or pick a book that is a military or special ops series

I hate scary books, so I’m not going to recommend a horror book or anything. I’ll recommend The Darkest Hour by Maya Banks, I like that author even though I haven’t read this particular book yet. I’ve heard good things about the KGI series.

Maritime Day, May 22 - pick a book that would be a great beach read

One for the Money by Janet Evanovich would be a good beach read, it’s very light reading but entertaining and interesting. I wouldn’t feel guilty if I took a nap on the beach while reading it.

Buddy Reads: I just had a baby last month, so I won’t be able to schedule buddy reads for awhile. I’m lucky if I can take a shower everyday. However, I would love to hear what you think of these books and I will try to read them as well.

Clean Up Your Room Day, May 10 - rec a book that is one of the oldest on your pickees TBR list that you'd like to read as well
I’m planning on reading A Discovery of Witches by Deborah Harkness, I’m going to start reading it tonight actually! Not sure how long it’s going to take me because it’s huge but we’ll see. The Girl in the Steel Corset looks interesting as well!

Chocolate Chip day, May 15 - Pick a book with a yummy cover
Since I’m extremely sleep deprived, I’m going to recommend The Espressologist, because the only thing that looks yummy to me right now is coffee!

Lauren,

Thank you for the wonderful picks! This month, I will read "A Hunger Like No Other" by Kresley Cole.
I keep putting that one on my list and not reading it, so it's about time I finally did!

I will also try to read "The Weight of Blood" by David Dalglish.

May is Loyalty Month - rec a book that is from a favorite author or series you love
I just finished The Witness by Nora Roberts and The Last Boyfriend comes out on Tuesday. Who doesn't love Nora Roberts? Or try anything by Sarah Addison Allen. My favorites are The Peach Keeper and The Girl Who Chased the Moon

May is Graduation Time - rec a YA book
I constantly recommend The Adoration of Jenna Fox because I find it thought-provoking but I also like Thirteen Reasons Why. One of the most recent YA I read and gave 5 stars A Monster Calls. Amazing story-I cried buckets.

International Space Day, May 4 - My alternate universe go-to author is Jayne Castle. First in series After Dark. If order doesn't matter try Ghost Hunter OR Midnight Crystal

Join Hands Day, May 4 - rec an author your pickee hasn't read before or a genre your pickee normally doesn't read Here I would recommend Patricia Briggs strong female Mercy Thompson. Each gets better. The first is Moon Called. Less paranormal, more contemporary and laugh out loud funny The Spellman Files or Bobbie Faye's Very (very, very, very) Bad Day. I'm very fond of the audio versions.

Tourist Appreciation Day, May 6 - rec a book that is set in a place you've visited or somewhere you'd like to visit
I love London and one of my favorite books is What Happens in London

National Teacher Day, May 8 - rec a nonfiction book that you enjoyed or a classic
Here I enjoyed The Lost Painting which has a great audio. Two of my all-time favorite memoirs are Here If You Need Me: A True Story and A Walk in the Woods: Rediscovering America on the Appalachian Trail. Favorite classic Of Mice and Men

Armed Forces Day, May 18 - since being in the armed services can be scary, pick a book that is a thriller or scary, or pick a book that is a military or special ops series
My favorite Special Ops author is Suzanne Brockman. Her Troubleshooters series is outstanding. The Unsung Hero is the first. Also like Cindy Gerard Show No Mercy. Thriller wise Daniel Silva has a great series The Kill Artist is the first.

Maritime Day, May 22 - pick a book that would be a great beach read
I love the Magic series by Ilona Andrews Magic Bites

Buddy Reads:

Clean Up Your Room Day, May 10 - Well if we are cleaning up my room then
The Darkest Night or Cry Wolf show up on both our lists.

Chocolate Chip day, May 15 - Pick a book with a yummy cover What a Dragon Should Know has a very yummy cover. In a more traditional use of the word...Chocolate Chip Cookie Murder has been on the TBR for a while.

Hope there is something here that appeals to you!

But you picked so many good books, I don't think I can keep it to just one! I will definitely read Wicked Ties and will do my best to read Seduce Me in Dreams (it's a buddy read with my other partner), Viscount Breckenridge to the Rescue, and Halfway to the Grave. Thank you for all the great picks!
