Kris (krisrabberman) | 172 comments I think you have great suggestions, Jerry, and if you are willing to set up threads I'd love the help!

I think we may need to set up some new folders to keep the discussions easier to navigate. As I look at the discussion thread suggestion you have above, I cam imagine the following folders to keep threads organized: Discussions of Characters; Discussions of Themes; Discussions of Organizations. I think we need to have spoiler warnings up on those threads. And I can develop a folder for Discussions by section, with different threads for different page ranges. How does that sound?

Jerry Wolfram | 81 comments Sounds real good.... ummmmm have you read IJ yet? JUST CURIOUS

Nope -- which is why I'm flying blind with the discussion threads. :)

Jason (ancatdubh2) | 147 comments Wow, that sounds like a lot of threads! I just meant "hey let's chat about Chapter 1 somewhere." I wasn't thinking of any particular character or theme.

I am fucked.

I just posted the page-range threads, Jason. I think for those of us who are 1st time readers, the thematic/character/organization threads will be chock full of spoilers, so we should stick to the page-range threads for discussion. I think the other threads are for veterans. :)

Jason (ancatdubh2) | 147 comments As usual, Kris, it sounds like we're on the same page. That sounds perfect. Thank you!!

I'm sending you good luck wishes, Jerry, for the lottery tickets, job searches, etc.

That is great Kris. This is my first group read and I'm so nervous excited!

It will be lots of fun, Garima!

Imsetting up some threads that i think will be discussed, and am putting a plea to posters to warn of possible spoilers , but as these things are encountered, i wish i had had a reading group to post to the first time i read it... does that make sense?

That does make sense, Jerry -- I'm glad you're joining us this time, at least.

The threads are all up. I think any members should be able to add new topics to those folders with no problems. Let me know if I have any spelling errors or am missing anything!

Kris (krisrabberman) | 172 comments Jane wrote: "I'll be able to start in mid-January, probably will go with the 2 mos schedule and aim to finish with the 3-monthers. Must confess I am intimidated by the prospect."

I'm glad you're joining us, Jane and Jacob!

I'm closing in on the end now, and I can confirm my experience was similar to that of other IJ veterans -- once you get past the 300-450 page mark, the many threads of the novel start to come together, and as you get further in, it's easier to read and harder to put down. Just be prepared for a lot of characters and story lines in the beginning that don't seem to clearly relate to each other. We have online resources posted in the group that can help with keeping characters and acronyms and other details straight.

Jason (ancatdubh2) | 147 comments Since this group is under new management and new management reads slowly, you'll find the group read dates have been pushed back a bit so new management doesn't feel so behind. =)

Are group read dates posted somewhere? I had originally joined in January since there was both a January and an earlier start date, then figured that no one was starting in January. So began reading on my own, but now think that maybe I could catch up? I've made it about 500 pages into IJ twice so hopefully that will help me. Errr, on about page 50 right now.
But yes a schedule would be lovely as some of us need structure. Thanks!

Jason (ancatdubh2) | 147 comments We haven't really broken it down to individual weekly page counts, but I'm basically following Kris's FORMULA #3 at the top of Page 1, except shifting it out a month (60 pages per week). So I guess something like this?

01 Jan 06 Jan: read to page 60
07 Jan 13 Jan: read to page 120
14 Jan 20 Jan: read to page 180
21 Jan 27 Jan: read to page 240
28 Jan 03 Feb: read to page 300
04 Feb 10 Feb: read to page 360
11 Feb 17 Feb: read to page 420
18 Feb 24 Feb: read to page 480
25 Feb 03 Mar: read to page 540
04 Mar 10 Mar: read to page 600
11 Mar 17 Mar: read to page 660
18 Mar 24 Mar: read to page 720
25 Mar 31 Mar: read to page 780
01 Apr 07 Apr: read to page 840
08 Apr 14 Apr: read to page 900
15 Apr 21 Apr: read to page 960
22 Apr 28 Apr: finish Infinite Jest

Something like that.

I will be reading like crazy this weekend and can start joining discussions soon. Thanks, Jason.

Gary the Bookworm (garmct) | 20 comments I can't remember when I started this, but it appears that I'm on schedule according to Jason's new rules!

Michael Mcqueen | 7 comments I actually joined the group late January, and will be finishing the book later today. I think it would scare me to read it over too long of a period of time. I am stuck in between. Reading too much at a time is overwhelming, but reading too slow makes it too easy to forget the minor details which seem to pop up later.
