Reviewed and posted a review for Marcelle on goodreads and on Amazon. eg

message 3: by Jay (new)

Jay Howard (jay_howard) Wow, that was fast, Eileen! And another excellent review too. Here's the link for other members to follow:

message 4: by Mona (new)

Mona Karel (monakarel) | 78 comments Johnny has dropped out. So where do I review next???

message 5: by Jay (new)

Jay Howard (jay_howard) Mona, I'm trying my best to find someone else to take his slot. We have a week before round 2 starts, and I promise we will have something sorted by then, even if it's just sort round 2 and take the extra time to sort rounds 3 and 4. I'll post on Group 1 thread when we have it sorted, and I'll email you and Marie-Anne with the details too.

message 6: by Mona (new)

Mona Karel (monakarel) | 78 comments No problem just didn't want to be shorting anyone. I have contest entries to judge, editing to do (have to kill my darlngs!) and something new to pound out. Not to mention trying desperately to understand Scrivener!

message 7: by Jay (new)

Jay Howard (jay_howard) Just had a quick look at Scrivener - it looks quite interesting, Mona. Tell us how you get on with it.

Has anyone else in the group used this type of software? I'll suggest to Mike that we have a discussion thread for the ways we work, what helps, what advice we could pass on, that kind of thing.

message 8: by K.A. (new)

K.A. Krisko (kakrisko) | 1703 comments I use Scrivener and really like it. I use the corkboard feature a lot and separate chapters by file - it allows me to lay them out side-by-side & move sections from one to the other, etc. Eventually you will export it to a single file for final editing, but it's good for the original set-up and construction.

message 9: by Jay (new)

Jay Howard (jay_howard) That sounds so useful, Kathy. I'll have to give it a go.

Mike agrees about the new thread so I'll copy over these comments to start it off.

message 10: by Mona (new)

Mona Karel (monakarel) | 78 comments K A I was taking a Scrivener class and had to set it aside...I still have the notes since it was on line. I'm trying to take a WIP and set it up on the cork board but right now all I have are those index cards. This is the first book I've written in scenes instead of straight through beginning to end. But it's also the first book where I'm keeping the action around a lot of people instead of in a more isolated location.

message 11: by Jay (new)

Jay Howard (jay_howard) A big thanks to our registered reader, Rebecca Vance. She has kindly agreed to review Marie-Anne's book for round 2 so that I'll get a few extra weeks to find someone for rounds 3 and 4.

Mona - sorry you won't get one to review this round, but I guess you're as busy as the rest of us. Is this actually a welcome break?

Marie-Anne - Rebecca would like a pdf or mobi file please.

message 12: by Jay (new)

Jay Howard (jay_howard) Hey, Mona - here's another idea for you. We have books on the Nominate for Review topic. You could be our first author to post a review for one of them.

message 13: by Mona (last edited Oct 04, 2012 07:56PM) (new)

Mona Karel (monakarel) | 78 comments Didn't get your message in my gmail, sorry! Sure I can sit this one out, I'm writing a new book and editing another. will try to keep a closer eye on things, just let me know

message 14: by Jay (new)

Jay Howard (jay_howard) Happy writing, Mona :)

As I understand it, I'll be reviewing Mike's book in Round 3.....is that right?

message 17: by Jay (new)

Jay Howard (jay_howard) That's correct, Larry. I'm going to post to the new thread shortly.

Good news, folks - Kanwar, a new member, has kindly agreed to do rounds 3 and 4 for us while waiting for his own group to form up.

Welcome, Kanwar - we all hope you enjoy your time with us :)

message 18: by Jay (new)

Jay Howard (jay_howard) That's a good review, Larry :)

message 19: by Larry (new)

Larry Garner (larryanimalgarner) | 25 comments Thanks, Jay! Welcome, Kanwar! I know you'll find this an interesting exercise.

message 20: by Jay (new)

Jay Howard (jay_howard) Thanks for the chance to read your book, Larry. Here's my review:

message 21: by Larry (new)

Larry Garner (larryanimalgarner) | 25 comments I appreciate your stepping into the empty spot and reviewing it for me! Thanks for sticking with it!

message 22: by Jay (new)

Jay Howard (jay_howard) Hey, you were my next assigned read, Larry, and I'm certainly glad of it. You are quite a story teller, and that must have taken so much work. I'd never have managed to keep track of that many twists and turns, and admire people who can conceive of plots like that.

message 23: by Jay (new)

Jay Howard (jay_howard) Eileen - you have already posted your review of Marcelle's book. As Marcelle is not fulfilling her side of the reviewing, you have the right to delete the review. Your choice, no pressure either way, to leave or delete.

I will leave it.

Jay Howard (jay_howard) Mona wrote: "Jay, when do you find time to write...or sleep!"

I've only just seen this post, Mona. You're right, it has all been a bit full-on. I sleep only 6 hours a night so that helps, but I haven't been writing. I can't decide which of 6 novels I have in outline to start in earnest. I think I'll have to take a holiday from the group for a month or two, get my head together on the next project. Don't worry - I know I'm not indispensable and the other mods will look after you all, probably much better than I've been doing. You have to admit - I've made my share of mistakes here lol! I'm lucky you've all been so easy on me while I've found my feet here. Thank you :)

yeah, I'm going to have to back off a little. I'll still review, of course, but am dropping dog club commitments like dead ticks (how's that for gross??) and concentrating on the words that are filling my head. I suddenly have an erotic novella clamoring ME FIRST

message 32: by Jay (new)

Jay Howard (jay_howard) Definitely go with the flow, Mona. When inspiration strikes it's a blessing. Being selfish, though, I'm very glad to hear you'll still be reviewing with us :) Let me/the author know if you need a week's leeway at any point. I'm sure we'll all be as accommodating as we can - within reason lol!

message 33: by Jay (new)

Jay Howard (jay_howard) Hey, excellent news for me - new member Lauren is reviewing my book so I don't miss out in this round. Thanks, Lauren!

Marie-Anne Mancio (hotelalphabet) | 139 comments Last minute but here is my review of Mike's "Stories for Home" http://www.goodreads.com/review/show/...

message 35: by Jay (new)

Jay Howard (jay_howard) Last minute? No, you were clear by 24 hours! Thanks, Marie-Anne :)
Luckily you haven't left me with a problem about availability of funds in my monthly budget as I've already got it, just haven't had time to read it yet. And 77p for all that work doesn't seem fair, does it? I'm a sucker for shorts, and it's a mission of mine to convince people about their merit. Why is it that, generally speaking, we acknowledge the worth of poetry but not shorts?

message 36: by Jay (new)

It's also at Amazon.com and co.uk :)

message 42: by Anne (new)

Anne Carlisle (acarlisle) | 328 comments Thank you, Mike. I agree with you that the best stuff in a review is the reviewer's blow-by-blow responses to what he's reading. In the end, that's what the writer needs to know and can't get any other way. I was impressed you did a running commentary as you were reading it. Never realized before that was there.

If the author has the book on AmazonUK, the author needs to give you the link. The book may not be on UK.

Go to Review Rounds on the home page. It will only show you a few of the threads. Look in the upper right hand corner, and you'll see "5 of 18" or whatever. Click that to get ALL the threads.
