Tanjlisa Marie (tanjlisamarie) | 29 comments May I recommend a book for us to review (and no, it is not my own)?

message 5: by K.A. (new)

K.A. Krisko (kakrisko) | 1703 comments Tanjlisa, there is a section for exactly that - go to the section called "Nominate for Review" and start a thread there on the book you'd like to nominate.

Alexes, you'll probably be in Group 5 (and/or back-up for anyone in Group 4 who drops out).

Jay Howard (jay_howard) Alexes wrote: "I'd like to participate again."

I'll put your name into the next group, Alexes, and in the meantime you have another 3 rounds to do in group 3. You don't have to stick rigidly to the round start dates so you can ask Kerry for her book file now if you want to. Just post a link on the round 2 thread when you get it so that I know you've started.
Thanks :)

message 7: by Alexes (new)

Alexes | 40 comments Oh. OK. I think I'm a bit confused about how this all works. I'll get in touch with Kerry. Maybe hold off on putting my name in for group 4 then.

message 8: by Kanwarpreet (new)

Kanwarpreet Grewal | 36 comments Can I request you for a little more time for the review? I am reading Sylvie's book for Group 1: round 3. And the dates are overlapping. I don't want to hurry any book so I request some extra time for this round.

Hi Kanwar - you'll also have overlap with round 4 of Group 1, when you're due to review Mike's book. Would you prefer to wait while Group 5 forms up? That way you can do 6 reviewing rounds (2 for Group 1 and 4 for Group 5) with no overlap at all. I'm sure Peter will be happy to take your place in Group 4.

OK, that's fine. Probably very wise, especially with Christmas coming up, not to take on too much at once. Some of your confusion was probably my fault as I hadn't got as far as posting the next round details. It's good to know you're enjoying it and want more :)
This is the thread you need for your next round:

If you take a look at the Admin section there are guidelines:

and FAQs:

which should make things clearer for you, but feel free at any time to post a question on your round thread, or Talk to the mods thread:

or start a new discussion in the General topic, or PM any of us if you want a private chat.

Yes, I would be happy joining group 5 to prevent any more overlaps. Thank you

Jay Howard (jay_howard) Thanks for the fast reply, Kanwar. I think it's the right decision for you.

I'll PM Peter to tell him the good news that he won't have to wait around.

Hi there
I'm super excited to say I've been assigned to review your books. Or is it just the one book?
Either way, I'm looking forward to it and please if possible email a PDF file to [email protected]
I'm a newbie so please bear with me.
Many thanks and I look forward to hearing from you.
Kind regards

Jay Howard (jay_howard) Katrina wrote: "*shuffle of feet* I'll figure this out I will I will... but this is going to be fun. Can't wait to start reading."

Don't fret, Katrina, it's actually much more straightforward than it looks at first. You're due to review Lisa's book in this round, Tanjlisa will be reviewing yours, so you need to PM each other to arrange what email address to send what format file to (reviewer's choice of format). Use the links in the first post to get to the author's page - it has a 'send message' button there.

When you receive the file you're reviewing, post a link to the book on this thread so everyone in the group can see all's OK and what you're reviewing.

That's enough to get you started. If you need me to, I'll post a 'how to' when you're ready to post your reviews, or just check out the FAQ thread in Admin section.

Enjoy your reading, everyone :)

Jay, I haven't reviewed Philip's book yet, as it is coming by mail from the US, so it's going to be a while before I catch up too.

message 19: by Jay (new)

Jay Howard (jay_howard) Hello Sylvie - why are you waiting for a print book? The Review Group members exchange electronic formats because of the relatively tight reviewing schedule. I know you and Philip have both sent your books in e-format before, so is there a particular problem at the moment?

message 20: by K.J. (new)

K.J. Joyner (spearcarrier) http://www.goodreads.com/book/show/12...

Here's my link. I ended up reading it in one sitting - so now I put my review on that link and on Amazon yes? I may go to Barnes and Noble, too - getting a good review THERE is like pulling teeth (mostly they're bad reviews I've seen) and I have a good review to make so....

message 21: by Jay (new)

Jay Howard (jay_howard) Hi Katrina, good to hear you enjoyed it so much:)

Summary for all members, posting of reviews:
It's easiest if you have your review in a Word file or whatever and then you can just copy and paste in the 3 locations.

All reviews should be posted on GR and the link to the review posted in the round thread.

Reviews should also be posted on Amazon.com and Amazon.co.uk, no link here needed.

If requested by the author to post to other sites too, it's appreciated by them but it's not obligatory as far as we're concerned.

Hello Jay - I did ask if Philip had a pdf file, but he suggested an ebook, and I don't have an ebook reader, so he said he would post a print book.

message 23: by Jay (new)

Jay Howard (jay_howard) I see, well print is OK if it's agreed by both parties and the review timings are kept to. You have a week before your round starts, and 3 weeks after that for posting your review, so all should be well.

There is an alternative, though. You can download Calibre and/or Adobe Digital Editions (both are free) and you can use them as e-readers or convert between formats to suit. You can also get the free Kindle reader for PCs and no doubt there are many more options out there. Have a chat with Mike, our techie mod, if you need help in this area.

message 24: by K.A. (new)

K.A. Krisko (kakrisko) | 1703 comments I personally have Calibre, Nook Reader for PC, and Kindle for PC on my laptop, so I can read any format. All of those are free. No need for a reader, although they are nice & handy for reading in bed!

message 25: by K.A. (new)

K.A. Krisko (kakrisko) | 1703 comments I should also point out that I've received and started to read Jamie's book.

Jay Howard (jay_howard) Hi folks, how are you all getting on? Has everyone got their file for review OK?

If you haven't done so already, please leave a post here to confirm when you get the file.
thanks :)

I didn't know about the other options, anyway Philip tells me he has sent the book some days ago. As I'm a full time carer for a poorly husband, I'm not sure I can keep to such rigid deadlines, especially when it includes being at the mercy of the international postal service. Don't mind stepping down if it's a problem.

message 29: by Jay (new)

Jay Howard (jay_howard) Don't rush to leave us, Sylvie, I know you're doing your best. I'm sure we'll all understand your difficulties if/when they arise and be as accommodating as possible. If you feel under too much pressure, we can find a fill-in for the last round, perhaps, but let's see how it goes.

Philip's book has just arrived. Timing isn't always easy to gauge when we're scattered round the globe and some of us are clearly more techie than others.

Oops. Ok, I read A Chance Encounter for Two.

message 38: by K.J. (new)

K.J. Joyner (spearcarrier) But I didn't give Chance Encounter to anyone. I gave Tiptoe Through Time and Space and am now very very confused.

message 39: by Tanjlisa (new)

Tanjlisa Marie (tanjlisamarie) | 29 comments That was the title on the document but it was a compilation of several short stories...did you not mean to send me that?

message 40: by K.J. (last edited Oct 25, 2012 07:53AM) (new)

K.J. Joyner (spearcarrier) No, that's what I meant to send I'm just confused why the title says that but not Tiptoe. Glad you said something; you may have ended up leaving a review in the wrong place.

I may have messed up with something in the formatting and never realized. I'm checking my files and they all read Tiptoe etc.... perhaps we should take this offlist.

message 41: by Jay (new)

Jay Howard (jay_howard) Thanks, Jamie. I'll be putting up the next round thread shortly so you can crack on if you want :)

message 43: by Jay (new)

Jay Howard (jay_howard) Thanks, SL :)

Everyone
Please note that an author may only ask for one book to be reviewed per round. A 2nd book may be sent for review in a different round, but it's not fair to ask for more than one review at a time.

Please remember to post the link to the book you have been asked to review in the round thread, and later post the link to the review as SL has done here. Thanks :)
