Kara (karaayako) | 3984 comments THE GOODREADS 100 CHALLENGE
Duration: January 1 - December 31

Å·±¦ÓéÀÖ posted a list of 100 fiction books based on the number of people who read them and their average review. The average Å·±¦ÓéÀÖ member has read 31 of these books. How many have you read? How many can you read in 2013?

List here: http://www.goodreads.com/list/show/12...

Rules:
Determine how many of the books you have read (you can get this by clicking on the button at the bottom of the list that says, "Get Results & Compare with Friends"). Pick a goal of how many you would like to read by the end of 2013. Post both of these figures in this thread, then track your progress throughout the year.

Example:
If I've read 67 of the books and am setting my goal for 85 by the end of 2013, my post would look like this:
At the start of 2013: 67
Goal: 85
COMPLETED: 0/18

Kara (karaayako) | 3984 comments I think I might go for the whole thing too!

message 4: by Kelsi (last edited Nov 06, 2012 07:53AM) (new)

Kelsi (essentiallybooked) | 751 comments I've read 60 of them. I would love to do this, because I will tackle more books from the 1001 Books to Read Before You Die list at the same time! The only thing stopping me from completing it would be James Joyce's Ulysses...UGH. We would have to do a Buddy Read for sure!

I have a couple of them slated to read before the end of the year, so I will post my actual goal as we get closer.

message 5: by Toni (last edited Nov 20, 2012 12:15PM) (new)

Toni | 234 comments UPDATED: I have read 50 and have all but two of the rest on my TBR list (sorry but I just can't do Twilight or The Notebook). Maybe I will start small (one a month) and up my goal if I get close.

At the start of 2013: 50
Goal: 62
COMPLETED: 0/12

Here are the books I'm going to go for:
Brave New World
Alice's Adventures in Wonderland
The Secret Garden
Gone With the Wind
Charlie and the Chocolate Factory
Frankenstein
Slaughterhouse-Five
The Golden Compass
The Little Prince
Anne of Green Gables
The Picture of Dorian Gray
One Hundred Years of Solitude

Obviously, I had a mispent youth reading Nancy Drew and the Hardy Boys rather than the classics of literature. :)

message 6: by Johanna (new)

Johanna | 766 comments I have read 28 of them. I will definitely participate on this challenge, but I´ll have to think about how many..

message 7: by Nathan (last edited Nov 09, 2012 07:15PM) (new)

Nathan (nthnlwly) I love this challenge! I've read only 19 of these books (gasp!); I think I'll try for 40 next year (so my goal for 2013 would be 21). Not sure yet, I'll finalize later.

message 8: by Sharon (last edited Nov 15, 2012 02:28PM) (new)

Sharon (sharint) | 749 comments I'm at 31 ... I'll have to look it over more closely see how many I want to read

message 9: by Kara (new)

Kara (karaayako) | 3984 comments That's a good point about Ulysses, Kelsi. Hmm.

I've read 71 of them but will have two more done by the end of the year. I know I can get through 26 of the remaining 27, but oh, Ulysses would be a huge pain.

message 10: by Melanie (new)

Melanie (melaniebopp) I've only read 46 of them (I am a little disappointed in my librarian self!)

I think I will definitely go for all 100 done by the end of next year, so!

At the start of 2013: 46
Goal: 100
COMPLETED: 0/54

(This may change based on how many more I finish by the end of the year - at least 4 of them are on my list for December!)

message 11: by Candiss (last edited Dec 03, 2012 11:00AM) (new)

Candiss (tantara) | 996 comments What an interesting list and an equally interesting idea for a challenge!

I've read 60 of these. I think I'll aim for 10 in 2013.

At the start of 2013: 60
Goal: 70
COMPLETED: 0/10

message 12: by Kai (last edited Feb 03, 2013 05:47AM) (new)

Kai (uchinaguchi) Make sure you actually go through the list in case you've read a different edition or if you recorded a set instead of the individual book. My disappointing 6 got bumped up to a still disappointing 15. I'll take it slow like and start at one a month.

At the start of 2013: 15
Goal: 12
COMPLETED: 1/12

The Stranger

message 13: by Kara (new)

Kara (karaayako) | 3984 comments Very good point, Kai! I had to do that too. And there were books I read a long, long time ago that I hadn't put on Å·±¦ÓéÀÖ, so I needed to adjust my number for those as well.

message 14: by Christina (new)

Christina My number is sad - only 19 read from the list. Almost every other one had already been marked Want To Read though lol.

At the start of 2013: 19
Goal: 12
COMPLETED: 0/12

message 15: by Ashley (new)

message 17: by Georgina (new)

Georgina (georginathelibrarian) So I have read 60 books on that list, and so that I don't take on too much I am going to set my target as reading the ones I haven't read, but which are already currently sitting on my bookshelves, which comes in at 15 titles.

At the start of 2013: 60
Goal: 75

0/15 completed

12. Pillars of the Earth
13. The Master and Margarita
14. My Sister's Keeper
15. Beloved

I shall mark them off with a finish date as I go along. Quite a few of those are rather chunky so should give me a good challenge!

message 20: by Lisa (new)

Lisa Swift | 18 comments Well, sadly I only have 13 of the hundred marked as read. I have read several of the books listed years ago as either a child or in school, so I am not marking them as completed since I really have no remembrance of them. So for 2013 I will attempt to knock out as many off the list as possible.

At the start of 2013 - 13
Goal - 87
Completed - 0/87

message 23: by Alexandra (last edited Nov 28, 2012 11:42AM) (new)

Alexandra (hawkescream) | 153 comments I've only read 17! I'm ashamed.

I'm going to go for all 83 that I haven't read. I'm really going to challenge myself this year and try and catch up on everything that I've missed out on. I might try and read a few before the year is up to lower my number, since I still have slots to fill for this year.

edit: As I was copying the list down in Excel I realized I had read a few more that I just didn't have in my "read" list, so I edited accordingly. ^.^

Goal: 83

Completed:0/83

ilovebakedgoods (Teresa) (ilovebakedgoods) | 169 comments I've read 11 of them. I'll just try to read 10 of them in 2013. I've been "trying" to read a bunch of these for years but find one reason or another not to so I'm going to be very conservative in my goal. Maybe I'll surprise myself and complete it!

At the start of 2013: 11
Goal: 10 in 2013 for a total of 21
COMPLETED: 0/10

message 27: by Kattibrie (new)

Kattibrie | 96 comments I guess I'm pretty average, I've read 29 of them. ;) I might go for the whole list, but there are some books I have no intention of reading ever (like the Twilight books, the Hunger Games etc), but I think I'll join anyway. I'm gonna go with 10 books, but I'll probably set my go higher later when I know what other challenges I'll be doing in 2013. :)

At the start of 2013: 29
Goal: 10 in 2013 for a total of 39
COMPLETED: 0/10

Kelsi (essentiallybooked) | 751 comments Who is excited for the Buddy Read of Ulysses in 2013?! I'm not, but it will be the biggest obstacle to completing this list. I'm thinking earlier rather than later..

message 29: by Tracy (new)

Tracy Kavanagh | 17 comments I have so far read only a very shameful 15, although I am currently reading one so that will put me up to 16 by the end of 2012! I am going to challenge myself to read 10 more. Hopefully some are done as Buddy Reads as a lot of them dont interest me enough to pick up by myself!

At the start of 2013: 16
Goal: 26

message 32: by Ashley (new)

Ashley I'm all about doing Ulysses as a Buddy Read, haha. I may not get it read otherwise!

When/If you would like to do a Buddy Read, let me know and I will set up a thread. :)

Haha, I will be more than happy to buddy read with you on any one of those books. Most of them are not in my comfort zone either. We can tackle them together! When you figure out which 10 you'd most like to read, let me know and we'll come up with a buddy read schedule. :)

Ashley Morgan, you decide when you want to read what book and if you want to Buddy Read it...just post in the Buddy Read section. I am totally sure one of us will join in with you. I am planning on completing the list (48 to go), so I know I will join you! lol :)

message 39: by Toni (new)

Audrey (godsmissiongal) | 173 comments I am in to read at least 10 more of the books found on this list. After looking over the list, I realized that I had only read 4 of them and all a long time ago. Most of the newer books are not really in my typical enjoyment reading styles. I am much more into non-fiction and historical fiction. So hopefully I can actually get through ten of these books this year. Good Luck to the rest of you.
