Okay so I am still into the vampire thing. I don't want to read anything else lol. I have read the Twilight series, L.A. Banks Vampire Huntress Series, Vampire Academy, House of Night, Morganville Vampires, Vampire Diaries, The Sookie Stackhouse series, the Cassie Palmer Series, some of the Anite Blake ones... WHAT NOW??? Give me something to read now lol.

Dawn (dawnv) | 320 comments hahaha I have been there - I think I went back to the basics for a second stuff like Dracula or Hotel Transylvania by Chelsea Quinn Yarbro. Then I read Rachel Morgan series by Kim Harrison and Black dagger brotherhood by J. R. Ward and I just started the Mary Janice Davidson series I am not sure what the series is called but I think all the books begin with Undead and something and my last recommendation would be the Sherrilyn Kenyon Dark Hunter series - I am currently addicted to this series and I cannot believe I waited so long to read it. Oh and there is Christine Feehan The Carpathians - granted I have issues in this series for me a lot goes a long way but it is still interesting and if you like it there are like 20 books. Hope this helps

The Flooze (the_flooze) | 1593 comments I second Queen Betsy - Undead and Unwed is the first.

I also second the Dark Hunters (a twist on vampires-Greek mythology-based). Read in order, or else things could get confusing.

Lynsay Sands' Argeneau series. They get better and better as they go along. Very funny and very sexy. The first, A Quick Bite, is not my favorite, but it still good. You can read them out of order and it won't affect you too much. Single White Vampire is hysterical.

Succubus Blues (Richelle Mead) and Moon Called (Patricia Briggs) have vampires as secondary characters. They become more and more prevalent in the Briggs' books as the series continues. The second book and the fourth book are Mercy vs. vamps.

I know there are more on my read list, but I'm having a brain fart.

message 4: by The Flooze (new)

The Flooze (the_flooze) | 1593 comments PS I loathe the Carpathians. All talk, no action. Plot, please!

message 5: by Dawn (new)

Dawn (dawnv) | 320 comments LOL @ the Carpathians...I was really into book 1-4 then at 5 I was like I need a break have not gone back yet LOL

message 6: by The Flooze (new)

The Flooze (the_flooze) | 1593 comments You just spend so much time in their heads! Oye!

Jeaniene Frost is a good one too. Kat & Bones. Although, for the first book, I thought it was a little trite until Bones appeared. Once he came on the scene, I was hooked.

message 7: by Stav (new)

Stav (voliotisa) | 291 comments The Cassie Palmer spin-off "Midnight's Daughter" is really good...vampires, dhampir, and more witches.

message 8: by Lori (new)

Lori (moderatrixlori) Here's my suggestions, some are the same as above:

Immortals After Dark, book 1 is A Hunger Like No Other
Blook Ties, book 1 is Blood Ties Book One The Turning
Night Huntress Series, book 1 is Halfway to the Grave
Black Dagger Brotherhood series, book 1 is Dark Lover

Also recommend A Rush of Wings which is a little more UF than PNR but has a really hot vampire and one smokin hot scene.

message 9: by Dawn (new)

Dawn (dawnv) | 320 comments I love the Immortals series especially the Valkyrie - are there other PNR/UF books with them in it?

message 10: by Joe (new)

Joe Has anyone read 'The Pull of Blood' by Kelly Roby? The 'look inside' at Amazon sounds really great, but since I'm cheap, I don't want to pay the hard cover price until I get some more reviews.

-Joe-

Dawn (dawnv) | 320 comments Never even heard of it.
Has anyone ever heard of Eternal Pleasure by Nina Bangs?
I picked it from the library

message 13: by The Flooze (new)

The Flooze (the_flooze) | 1593 comments Heard of Eternal Pleasure. Seem to recall the person liking it, but I don't have a personal review!

Dawn,

I've read Eternal Pleasure by Nina Bangs, and I've enjoyed it a lot. The second book, Eternal Craving, I think, is coming out in April.

It has an interesting concept, so I'm not going to reveal it. Although I enjoyed Bang's Sparkle/Ganymede series or Castle of Dark Dreams trilogy, I personally think that Eternal Pleasure is way better. I would recommend it.

Nichole (DirrtyH) (dirtyh) I just looked at the reviews for Eternal Pleasures, and people sure seem to like it. I'll admit, I was a little turned off just because I think the name "Nina Bangs" sounds a little hokey... :)

But it sounds dark - is it? (I love me a good DARK fantasy...)

message 16: by [deleted user] (new)

Eternal Pleasure is dark, which is kind of new for her. Her earlier books are more humorous. But I really liked it.

message 17: by Angela (new)

Angela Cameron (angelacameron) | 2 comments I really love the J.R. Ward books. You can't go wrong with the Black Dagger Brotherhood.

UniquelyMoi ~ BlithelyBookish Another 2 thumbs up for JR Wards BLack Dagger Brotherhood. I can't wait for Lover Avenged!

message 19: by Anya (new)

Anya Becker | 12 comments Angela Knights MAgeverse series is a great take on Vampires. The first one is in the anthology Hot Blooded

Also you should look into the DArk Hunter books by Sherilyn Kenyon. They have all kinds of different things in them, god and goddesses, dark hunters, demons, vamp(Daimon)etc. There are a bunch of them and are great.. the first is called Fantasy Lover!

message 20: by The Flooze (new)

The Flooze (the_flooze) | 1593 comments On Mageverse: In theory, I thought it was an interesting take.

Then I read a short story and the knight said that he needed to "milk" the girl before her blood pressure sky-rocketed. Needed to "milk" her.

Um. Yeah.

No offense to those who love it, but I don't want a man ever talking to me like I'm Bessie.

The rest of the story wasn't bad, but I couldn't get past that.

message 21: by [deleted user] (new)

::ROFL::

Michelle, that is hilarious!!

And if we're talking Angela Knight and bovine themes, I just cannot get past how almost every book of hers I've read has the hero orgasming and calling out his lover's name like he's calling the cows home:

"Jessicaaaaaaa!!"
"Lindaaaaaaa!!"
"Kellllllllllyyyy!!"

Talk about killing the mood, this just about does it for me.

Good times here on goodreads. Good times.

message 24: by Dawn (new)

Dawn (dawnv) | 320 comments Ok Eternal Pleasure was not a bad read and it was a really interesting idea I am glad to know there will be another book because I was like hey what is going to happen now??

Also I am reading Halfway to the Grave and WOW I love it how did it sit on my shelf for so long??

Well, you don't have long to wait. Eternal Craving is coming out next month.

Oh, and Cat and Bones are hot together..LOL.

How did it sit for so long? Are you sure it didn't burn any holes in your shelf? (You know, cause it's so hot and all....)
And One Foot In The Grave is even hotter...

Oh I love Bones. I have to admit the whole cockney accent thing got on my nerves in the beginning, but halfway through the book I stopped caring. He is just yummy. Dawn, you are in for such a treat!

I think the problem was that Jeaniene didn't have a very good handle on it in the beginning. She would string different bits of slang together that didn't really go and was quite heavy handed with it. However, she must have improved as the series went on, because I stopped noticing it after a while.

message 29: by Dawn (new)

Dawn (dawnv) | 320 comments Bones is the best, I was so bummed at the end and I refuse to read anything about the next book I just want to be surprised. And Cat's mom wow how terrible is she that she wants to cat to be ashamed of being who she is - I loved it when Bones was like never be ashamed of who you are. That book was super terrific!

DarkHeart "Vehngeance" (darkheart) | 737 comments Dawn wrote: "Bones is the best, I was so bummed at the end and I refuse to read anything about the next book I just want to be surprised. And Cat's mom wow how terrible is she that she wants to cat to be ashame..."

You won't be disappointed with One Foot in the Grave. It is, in my opinion, the best of the series so far. I won't give anything away though. ;)

Nichole (DirrtyH) (dirtyh) I never had trouble with Bones's accent - it's Spike! I just heard Spike in my head and all was well. :)

message 32: by Lori (new)

Lori (moderatrixlori) Bones is Spike for me as well. I sure miss that show.

DarkHeart "Vehngeance" (darkheart) | 737 comments I think part of it for me is that I've lived in the UK for the past 11 years, so the first book read as an American writing a Brit and not quite understanding all of the nuances of the slang. I absolutely love the book though, so it didn't bother me that much. I just warn my British friends when I introduce them to the series. ;)

Ahhhh....
I would not have been equipped to notice these things... I'm very culturally challenged. :)

UniquelyMoi ~ BlithelyBookish I might have to check out this book.

Did I hear Spike? I miss him too. I just watched the series from start to finish last summer. I hated the way it ended. I wanted him to have his HEA.

message 38: by Valerie (new)

Valerie | 2 comments I'm with everyone on the JR Ward and the Grave Series... Bones is HAWT! How about Joey W. Hill's Vampire Queen series? Extra super steamy... I enjoyed it though :)

Oops forgot about this thread. Yes DH, I totally agree--stringing together "Blimey" and "luv" and "Cripes" in the space of a page is trying really hard to sound as English as all get. Part Cockney, part Londoner, part ...I dunno...West Counties? I have to admit it was one of the things I found jarring about Spike as well---aaah don't attack, I loved him too!

But you know, whatever. Like I said, once the story got started that stuff just faded and the toothy deliciousness that was Bones just took over.

And to give her credit, she sharpened it up considerably in the second and third books and I barely even noticed it in them.

message 40: by The Flooze (new)

The Flooze (the_flooze) | 1593 comments Moss & DH: hilarious and I totally concur. And you're right, it must've cleaned up because I too stopped noticing it. But at first some of it was a tad cringe-worthy!

Definitely Spike in my head, but I like to imagine him a bit more filled out than Marsters.

Nichole (DirrtyH) (dirtyh) Yeah, I definitely hear Spike, and Bones kind of embodies Spike's general hotness, but I picture Bones much better looking.

Erin wrote: "Did I hear Spike? I miss him too. I just watched the series from start to finish last summer. I hated the way it ended. I wanted him to have his HEA."

I haven't watched it yet so I can't vouch for what exactly happens, but Spike/Marsters went to Angel after the last season of Buffy...
I can't say for certain if he got an HEA exactly, but there's definitely more to Spike's story than the way Buffy ended.

message 42: by Dawn (new)

Dawn (dawnv) | 320 comments I remember him on Angel but it was not until like the last season or the second to last season and if memory serves he got a soul or something and fights with Angel. I feel like no one got an HEA after Angel but I could be wrong

Nichole (DirrtyH) (dirtyh) *SPOILER*

Yeah, it was the last season of Angel. But Spike dies in the last season of Buffy, and then went on to do the last season of Angel.
So if you saw the last season of Buffy and didn't continue on to watch Angel, you might think that was the end of Spike....

message 44: by Dawn (last edited Mar 20, 2009 05:21PM) (new)

Dawn (dawnv) | 320 comments Oh so that is how he got a soul then LOL ten years later it begins to click

Man I used to love Buffy

Nichole (DirrtyH) (dirtyh) Well, he got his soul on Buffy at the end of season 6/beginning of season 7 - he went to some big baddie who was able to give him his soul back because he wanted Buffy to be able to love him.

message 46: by The Flooze (new)

The Flooze (the_flooze) | 1593 comments Is there anyone for whom Bones isn't Spike?

Pipe up, because I'm curious!

message 47: by Dawn (new)

Dawn (dawnv) | 320 comments I never thought of Bones as Spike. I was thinking someone more like Hugh Jackman.

message 48: by The Flooze (new)

The Flooze (the_flooze) | 1593 comments Innnteresting...

Especially with that hair color change to brownish that went on for a bit. I'll have to ponder that one!

message 49: by Lori (new)

Lori (moderatrixlori) But Spike obviously bleached his hair too so in my mind that makes Bones even more like Spike. I had a hard time picturing him with longer, brown hair. I was glad he went back to close cropped platinum. It's so interesting to see how people visualize characters.

message 50: by The Flooze (new)

The Flooze (the_flooze) | 1593 comments I know!

He said Spike all around to me from the first, but as I said before, I imagined him a little more filled out...and a tad more square-jawed....but definitely working off the Spike template.

Jackman is more filled out! Hmn...
I am even more curious now how other people's mental pics compare.

So we've got Spike, and we have Hugh Jackman. We'll see who else chimes in on my pseudo-survey!
