I have read the original Olivia book, but never read any of the others in the series. Upon finally reading Olivia Saves the Circus, I was just as pleased with it as I was the original. Ian Falconer does an amazing job telling the story of Olivia the pig, who has a very vivid imagination. Almost any Kindergarten or first grader could probably relate to Olivia's exaggerated tale of her vacation to the circus. Upon arrival, she noticed that everyone was out sick with ear infections, so she took it upon herself to save the day! Or at least that is what she told her classmates. When looking at this book through a teacher's perspective, this book would be a great resource to teach creative writing to older students. How fun would it be if they made up their own Olivia adventure?
