We are halfway done with Week 24 and you chose a book just because of its cover.

This discussion thread is solely for your progress (book discussions go in individual threads).

What did you read this week?

Did you enjoy the book?

Do you think the cover gave you a good clue about what was in the book?

Are the book covers usually important when you choose a book?

Keri What did you read this week?
Ever After by Elda Minger

Did you enjoy the book?
It was a simple easy book to read. There were a few things I didn't like but overall enjoyable.

Do you think the cover gave you a good clue about what was in the book?
No. The cover has a dog on it and the dog was barely in the book. It was more of a romance novel than I was expecting.

Are the book covers usually important when you choose a book?
I admit that the covers are what usually draw me to a book. If someone recommends a book with an unattractive cover it won't dissuade me from reading it though.

I've read Istoria lui Răzvan by Horia Corcheș by Horia Corcheș

Did you enjoy the book?
Yes, it was nice.

Do you think the cover gave you a good clue about what was in the book?
Yes, but I didn't chose it only by it's cover. It actually has some nice pictures insed it! haha

Are the book covers usually important when you choose a book?
No, a beautiful cover is more like a bonus, for me.

Did you enjoy the book? Yes, it was a fun read.

Do you think the cover gave you a good clue about what was in the book? No.

Are the book covers usually important when you choose a book? Sometimes. They are usually what make me pick-up the book.

Where'd You Go, Bernadette

Did you enjoy the book?
Yes, it was a quick, entertaining read.

Do you think the cover gave you a good clue about what was in the book?
Not really.

Are the book covers usually important when you choose a book?
Somewhat. Often the cover is what draws me to a book. Really cheesy covers will turn me off from a book.

What did you read this week?

The School of Essential Ingredients

Did you enjoy the book?

Yes.

Do you think the cover gave you a good clue about what was in the book?

Somewhat

Are the book covers usually important when you choose a book?

Sometimes...usually I am looking for a book by a specific author or on a particular topic, so the covers are not that meaningful.

What did you read this week?Black Feathers
Black Feathers (Black Dawn, #1) by Joseph D'Lacey

Did you enjoy the book?
Oh yes :D It's better than what I expected and it's on my favorite list from now.

Do you think the cover gave you a good clue about what was in the book?
Yes and no. It definitively has an apocalyptic subject but I expected something more "biohazard" oriented. The story has in fact an ecological tone and there's fantasy too. By the way, the title is just perfect and gave a good clue.

Are the book covers usually important when you choose a book?
Yes, I usually choose books by their covers. Of course, I can read ugly ones but I'm less appealed by them.

Karen Michele Burns (klibrary) What did you read this week?
Prayers for the Stolen by Jennifer Clement Prayers for the Stolen by Jennifer Clement

Did you enjoy the book?

Yes, I did.

Do you think the cover gave you a good clue about what was in the book?

Yes, although it was darker than I expected the clues were all on the cover. There is a scorpion lurking among the other pictures!

Are the book covers usually important when you choose a book?

Not always, but I definitely read some just because of their covers!

Jean Cole (joc724) | 115 comments What did you read..."
First Frost (Waverley Family, #2) by Sarah Addison Allen

What did you read..." First Frost by Sarah Addison

Did you enjoy the book? Yes I did. It's not one that I would have chosen based on the summary but I was pleasantly surprised,

Do you think the cover gave you a good clue about what was in the book? Not really. There was an beautiful ripe apple covered with frost. The contrast of summer ripeness and winter frost intrigued me.

Are the book covers usually important when you choose a book? A little. I read the title and the style of the cover usually gives a clue as to the "mood" of the book. But the deciding factor is usually the summary.

Christi What did you read
The Glass Kitchen: A Novel of Sisters
The Glass Kitchen A Novel of Sisters by Linda Francis Lee

Did you enjoy the book? It was pretty good.

Do you think the cover gave you a good clue about what was in the book? Not particularly. Mason jars are so big in home decor now this book cover could have worked for a wide range of books.

Are the book covers usually important when you choose a book? No. Too many times I've picked up a book at the library based on a beautiful cover. And found that the writing inside did not measure up.

Jessica | 225 comments What did you read this week?
Off to Be the Wizard

Did you enjoy the book?
Not at first, but I eventually did. Almost begrudgingly so.

Do you think the cover gave you a good clue about what was in the book?
Not really, I was expecting more visuals that the cover showed, but I am glad it didn't go that route :)

Are the book covers usually important when you choose a book?
Sometimes, but mostly not. Book covers draw me in, but I find they usually disappoint me, so I tend to go by book recommendations on here rather than book covers :)

Megan (megan_morris) | 170 comments What did you read this week?

A Thousand Pieces of You (Firebird, #1) by Claudia Gray

Did you enjoy the book?

Yes! I actually really liked it. I think it's one of my favourites I've read this year.

Do you think the cover gave you a good clue about what was in the book?

Kind of, but not really. I was thinking it was something time travel like, I was close but it was dimension travel.

Are the book covers usually important when you choose a book?

I'd love to be that person who says 'no, I don't judge a book by it's cover' but I'm not. The cover definitely has an impact on my choices, this book had a particularly beautiful cover that's been calling to me since I made my 2015 plan.

message 13: by Jody (new)

Jody (jodybell) | 531 comments What did you read this week? Life of Pi

Did you enjoy the book? Not even a little bit.

Do you think the cover gave you a good clue about what was in the book? Yes, it's a story about a boy in a boat with a tiger.

Are the book covers usually important when you choose a book? I do like an aesthetically appealing book cover, I won't deny it. But I'm a very visual person so that's no surprise! But a terrible cover won't put me off if I feel the story will be something I'm interested in.

Silvia Turcios | 304 comments What did you read this week?
Me and Earl and the Dying Girl

Did you enjoy the book? Yes, I did

Do you think the cover gave you a good clue about what was in the book?More than the cover, the tittle did.

Are the book covers usually important when you choose a book? Sometimes it is, but not always. However a couple of times I have paid more money for a book just because the cover was prettier than the cheaper one (same book) :P
