ROUND 3: Not-so-Easy Tasks

How to play:

1. There are 12 pie slices (“Colours) to be collected to complete your pie (“Round).

2. For Round 3: under each Colour, there will be a list of 6 Tasks.

3. to determine the Colour and roll once more, of , to determine the Task you are to read by (1=a, 2=b... 6=f)

Example:
Rolled 5 ---> Black Lists, Lists, Lists:

Rolled 3 ---> Read one book from one of these lists:
c. Notable Books List

4. If you have any questions in regards to particular tasks, please ask them in the Not-so-Easy Task thread.

There will be reserved spots under each tasks where there will be listed any clarifications. Please note, to keep this thread clear, any questions which have been answered satisfactorily will be deleted.

5. You may claim a Colour when you finished reading the book, as per your die rolls.

6. If you've rolled same number for a Colour you've already got, you still have to read for it again prior to moving on.

Just as in the boardgame you still have to do the activity / answer the question correctly to move forward

7. BUT you can ONLY claim a Colour ONCE.

Your complete pie of 12 slices will have to be made up of all 12 different Colours.

8. As we are using 2 dice, we cannot roll a "1" so "1" will be the LAST Colour to be read / claimed AFTER you have read / claimed Colours #2-12.

You will still need to roll 1 die to determine which Shelf to read from for Colour #1

9. There will be limited planning allowed: you may roll / plan up to 3 Tasks ONLY

10. There is NO page limitation for Round 3 except for the task where it requires you to read a certain number of pages (ie. Task #1)

To count the number of pages (Task #9), please use the number of pages noted on most popular edition of book.

11. To Unlock Round 4, one person must have completed their pies for Rounds 1, Round 2 and 3.

12. You may play Rounds 1, 2 and 3 concurrently BUT books may not crossover between Rounds (ie. whatever you're reading for Round 1 (Shelves) cannot be claimed for Round 2 (Easy Tasks) too, etc

Note #9 - I've just changed the planning to be limited to 3 Tasks rather than 3 books as some tasks require you to read more than 1 book.

Karen (karenofthebookworm) I know we are only supposed to plan three books ahead in the previous rounds and three tasks ahead in this round but I'm not going to be anywhere near a computer for five weeks and if I want to keep playing I need to plan a lot ahead and load up my kindle with the books I would read for each round. Can I do this? If not it doesn't really matter.

Are you going on a holiday, Karen?

You should do your first 3 tasks for Round 3 first and see how many books you'll have to read... depending on your luck, you may have to read 6 books for 1 task!

Otherwise, I may consider one off concession to increase your limit to 5 books for Round 2 & 5 tasks for Round 3, would that be sufficient reading materials for 5 weeks?

Karen (karenofthebookworm) Yes I'm away on holiday, I'll be gone for five weeks. 5 books for round 2 and 5 tasks for round 3 should be more than enough.

@Karen: why don't you do your first 3 rolls for Round 3 and see how many books you'd have to read for these 3 tasks?

Three tasks, twelve books - that should keep me going for a while.

I thought that might be the case :)
Have a safe but fun holiday, Karen! Where are you off to? by yourself or with family / friends?

I'm off to Thailand, Laos, Vietnam and Cambodia. I'm travelling to Thailand by myself and then meeting up with a tour group in Bangkok.

LynnB | 1760 comments (Sigh) I am not looking forward to having to repeat a few of these if I roll the color again! This third one is truly a tougher challenge, Tien. You are a great challenge planner!

Lol is that a complaint or a compliment? ;)

Remember there's no page limitation here... in finding that i can fit in books i'm reading with my 5yo.

Oh, wow, hadn't remembered that! Will start using that thought!

Amy | 2231 comments Just realized I may have been doing some of the tasks in this round incorrectly. Some of the tasks ask that we read one book where we then need to roll to determine which task that book will fall under. Those are clear. Others (tasks 7, 8 and 10) ask that we roll to determine how many books to read for the given task. Next is where I'm confused. Do we perform the task that matches the number of books we've rolled or do we roll again to determine which task to do?

For example, I rolled task 7, then rolled a 3 to determine how many books to read. I then rolled again and got a 4, so I read 3 books for task d. Should I have not rolled that third time and just done task c to match the 3 I had already rolled? If so, then the number of books you have to read and the task will always match (roll 1, read 1 book of task a; roll 2, read 2 books of task b, etc.)

I'm hoping you'll be lenient if I've messed up...

You've done this correctly, Amy :D
