Felicity (happyblackgirl) | 45 comments Unfortunately, I was not able to participate in March's discussion, but I am still looking forward to April! What do you ladies want to read? I'm pretty much down for whatever this go round...

Continualknowledge | 52 comments Hi, I created a poll for fiction books set in Africa or written by an African author. I thought it might be good to change it up. I will also create a nonfiction poll so that there are two books for people to choose from. If folks are okay with with that.

Felicity (happyblackgirl) | 45 comments Hey, how about we read Chinua Achebe's Things Fall Apart? I am so sad to hear of his passing...

message 4: by Rosa (new)

Rosa | 22 comments I agree... It has been years since I read Things Fall Apart...

Brown Girl Reading Great idea! Felicity wrote: "Hey, how about we read Chinua Achebe's Things Fall Apart? I am so sad to hear of his passing...

onegirl (one_girl) | 16 comments I aree with Felicity. Things Fall Apart.

message 8: by Erika (new)

Erika | 10 comments In another thread Things Fall Apart was declined as it's not written by a female author. I've found both poll winners for April at my library. If we could confirm soon that would be much appreciated.

onegirl (one_girl) | 16 comments It's almost April...is there a consensus on any of the books?

The polls close tomorrow and I will post the winners in the evening.

Did we settle on the books for April? I haven't received any notification. Looking forward to further discussion!

Due to his passing, I decided to re-read it.

Wes | 6 comments Hi everyone! Just joined the group

message 14: by Rakel (new)

Rakel | 24 comments I looked at the polls for April and the winners were: The Other Side of Paradise (for the memoir book) and Half of a Yellow Sun (for a fiction book based in Africa) I have Half of a Yellow Sun, so I'm starting it today. And it seems like a lot of people want to reread Things Fall Apart. Can we make discussion threads for them?

Sounds good to me! I can't get my hands on either book right now (still trying!), but I do have Things Fall Apart.

Cool. I have an all day training at work tomorrow, so I'm going to bed early. When I get home if there isn't a thread started for Half of a Yellow Sun I'll start one. I need to get the other two, hopefully someone w/the books will start threads as well.

Welcome, and yay cool! I finished the first chapter, I'm already hooked. I posted about starting a thread tomorrow after work, but if you'd like to and are able plz feel free to do so. This book seems like it's going to be an incredible read.

message 20: by Crystal (new)

Crystal (mslibrarylady) | 21 comments I know my library has Half of a Yellow Sun...because I ordered it ! :) I'm going to start today....

Brown Girl Reading I've already read Half a Yellow Sun, but if that's chosen I'll try to catch up and read Kindred.

Brown Girl Reading What's going to be read in April?

message 23: by Margaret (new)

Margaret Sisu (margaretsisu) Hello, I'm Margaret. Hope I'm welcomed. I joined this group because I studied literature in secondary school form 3-5 (high school grade 7-9), and Things Fall Apart was one required reading. I read Song of Solomon when I was 14 and fell in love with Morrison then (and to this day). I'm a bit late to read and join this month's discussion, but hope I can join in for May's.

Continualknowledge | 52 comments Welcome Margaret!!

Continualknowledge | 52 comments Should we get a poll going for May books? Any suggestions for themes?

Brown Girl Reading How about something from Bernice L. McFadden?

message 27: by Kanita (new)

Kanita Carington-McDonald (kanitacaringtonmcdonald) | 31 comments Something by Bernice L. McFadden would be nice.

Continualknowledge | 52 comments There's only one Bernice McFadden book on the list...Gathering of Waters. So we can start a thread for that book.

message 29: by Kanita (new)

Kanita Carington-McDonald (kanitacaringtonmcdonald) | 31 comments Gathering of Waters sounds good to me!

message 30: by Rosa (new)

Rosa | 22 comments I agree!!! I would love to discuss 'A Gathering of Water' for May.

message 31: by Rosa (new)

Rosa | 22 comments Oops! I meant "Gathering Of Waters". Bernice McFadden would be wonderful for May.

Brown Girl Reading Gathering of Waters sounds like an excellent choice to me.

message 33: by Felicity (new)

Felicity (happyblackgirl) | 45 comments Yay, it looks like I have access to Gathering of Waters! Downloading now... Can't wait to discuss it with you all.

Continualknowledge | 52 comments Can we also add a nonfiction book for May?

WritingReadingSoul (writingsoul) Just got Gathering . . .today from my local library. Looking forward to the discussion!

message 36: by Stephanie (new)

Stephanie (stephaniesuber) I read Gathering of Waters back in February. It's an excellent read!! Hope y'all enjoy it!!

Brown Girl Reading Ahhh! My copy won't be arriving until the 16th of May. I hope that's an over exaggeration. It's only coming from over the English Channel for Christ's sake!

message 38: by Kanita (new)

Kanita Carington-McDonald (kanitacaringtonmcdonald) | 31 comments I reserved a copy at my local library. Just checked on it and it's "in transit"...yay! I should be picking it up soon!
