Jackie | 2103 comments Well, I'm still willing to participate but I'm confused about where to start. Should I go through the categories and try to figure out what I can do individually? Teresa and Mary, I'll help if you can tell me what you need. I agree that this challenge seems very confusing.

ilovebakedgoods (Teresa) (ilovebakedgoods) | 226 comments Okay... I'm still not entirely sure what's going on with that 7 in 7 challenge or if I'll participate or what yet, BUT I wanted to post something...

I am participating in a Buddy Read with some people from Leather Jacket Black and Mango Tango (they will be posting the Buddy Read on the NBRC folder, as required by the 7in7 challenge), however, that's just one book. So, if I read that one book then does that mean someone else MUST participate in a buddy read so we get credit for 7 reads for that category? See, this is one area I get really confused on when I try to sort this thing out in my head.

So, if the answer that question is Yes and nobody wants to do a buddy read for whatever reason, AND I dn't want to read 6 more buddy reads then we don't get credit for my one buddy read, right? So it's pointless for me to even consider it, in that situation? Because we can't just mix and match 1 buddy read and pick up 6 books in another category...right?

Okay, that's it for now. I'll focus on my personal summer plan some more and then later see if any of it fits this 7 in 7 thing.

Sonia (darktalynn) | 11599 comments *whispers to Teresa*
you do realize you are in the mods team, right?

So the odds of having more members participating on the BOM's and Buddy Reads are looking good I'd say

*giggles*

I didn't have the time yet to analyse point by point on the challenge. And won't be looking seriously before friday night - work project from hell just reached another notch on Dante's scale

But I'm willing to help as Jackie. We'll have to break through all the steps and see which ones are compatible with our reading plans and which ones will require some planning

ilovebakedgoods (Teresa) (ilovebakedgoods) | 226 comments Haha, I forgot about that, Sonia. :p

Shhhh. Lisarenee and the Mod Account are our secret weapons.

ilovebakedgoods (Teresa) (ilovebakedgoods) | 226 comments *snort* Haha, it was a secret even to me, since I completely forgot about them helping out, LOL!

I'm not going to stress out anymore but I will refrain from trying to think for a few more days, haha.

Good idea, Teresa. (((Cyber Hugs)))

message 408: by Jackie (new)

Jackie | 2103 comments I've been looking at the categories and comparing to the books I've got coming up. This is what I've found so far.

Cat#1 - 1, but probably could find more
Cat#5 - 7 - Letters T, T, S, E, D, C, L
Cat#6 - 4 from the Spell-it-out
Cat#7 - 6 at least

Didn't look at Cat#2 & 3 because of not knowing colors.

Lisa Kay (lisakayalicemaria) | 15159 comments LOL! **waves** Hi, Jackie. That is great.

I saw your post in Pewter Blue. LOL! I guess the Captains are going to have to pick a Team and decide which one we'll post in over in the "sister group."

That is, if you all like the idea that Steven did, with seven reserved spots???

message 410: by Mary X (new)

Mary X (marymaryalwayscontrary) | 5588 comments I took the liberty of posting a thread for this challenge. I can rename it to put both our teams on it. I think it will be much easier for me to keep track if participants create a post in it like for the RAT and keep that updated. Then I can go through and keep track of who can read what and who does read what.

Mary X (marymaryalwayscontrary) | 5588 comments Teresa I hope I am not stepping on your toes by kind of taking this over. It sounded like you did not have to time to do it yourself.

OK going to start a list of who says they can read what for each category.

Jackie | 2103 comments Posted in new thread.

message 414: by Mary X (new)

Mary X (marymaryalwayscontrary) | 5588 comments Also while I don't normally do the BOM or Buddy reads. I am not opposed to doing one for this.

OK here's some books I plan on reading very soon if anyone wants to do a buddy read with me: Ghost Story (The Dresden Files, #13) by Jim Butcher Leopard Moon (Moon, #1) by Jeanette Battista Chosen (The Chosen #1) by Denise Grover Swank Exclusively Yours (Kowalski Family, #1) by Shannon Stacey Animal Magnetism (Animal Magnetism, #1) by Jill Shalvis Assassin's Heart (Order of the Sicari, #2) by Monica Burns
Flow The Cultural Story of Menstruation by Elissa Stein

or feel free to look at my to-read-shelf and suggest something and I'll see if I can work it into my other challenges.

Not at all! My toes are just fine (except when the kitten bites them, LOL)! I am very happy to have you here to help out, hehe. I'm so focused on trying to get my summer challenge done (typing it up in a document right now!) and next comes making a list of books I plan to read so after that I will try to wrap my brain around the challenge. You feel free to take charge and make threads and do whatever you desire, hehe!

message 416: by Mary X (new)

Mary X (marymaryalwayscontrary) | 5588 comments OK in the 7% threads for our teams, I started filling in who has said they can read what on the Spell it out challenge.

Please if you want to do the spell it out challenge but can't do anything with the letters left open-post what letters you can do. I know I can do different letters if needed and others might be able to switch as well.

Moderators of NBRC | 33160 comments Mod

SOME CHANGES and an EXAMPLE:

The letters “N.B.R.C. have been added to Category #5.

md, from Cerulean (AKA “Hobbit Blue) provided this example, which I tweaked a bit to include an example of a series name and to include the newly added letters.
You're not allowed to reuse a letter and since “N.B.R.C.   T.O.W.E.R.   T.E.A.M.S.   R.E.A.D.I.N.G.   C.H.A.L.L.E.N.G.E. only has two letter 'T's in it that's all your allowed to have. We couldn’t read 7 books that qualified for the letter 'T,' we'd have to pick another letter.

For example:

B - The Bridgertons #4 - Romancing Mister Bridgerton

T - The Da Vinci Code
O - The English Patient by Michael Ondaatje
W - Where'd You Go, Bernadette

T - Tom's Midnight Garden
E - Everything is Illuminated
M - Scarlet by Marissa Meyer

We've completed challenge #5 because we've read 7 books (and used 7 letters).

If we wanted to do this challenge again instead of doing one of the others (say #4) we can do so; but, we can only choose from the letters we haven't used already.

In this example it would be: “N.R.C   E.R.   A.S.   R.E.A.D.I.N.G.   C.H.A.L.L.E.N.G.E.

We're allowed to do it a 3rd time, but we would only be able to choose from the letters that are remaining.

The letter 'E' appears 5 times so that would mean there could be 5 books that qualify for that letter and the remaining 2 books would have to be another letter.

message 418: by Mary X (new)

Mary X (marymaryalwayscontrary) | 5588 comments Right now I have 21 books claimed for #5 of the challenge which is the max we can count for that one.

But, if that's the only challenge someone else feels that they can do please post what letters you can do. I'm sure someone can move their books to something else. I know I could. Plus you never know when real life will keep someone from reading what they had planned.

message 419: by Mary X (new)

Mary X (marymaryalwayscontrary) | 5588 comments Since the other trhead has became mainly a discussion thread, I created a thread for people to report finished books only. You can keep your posts in the first thread for your own tracking. I will also monitor those posts and the less active players read shelves. But I thought it would be helpful to have a thread only for finished books.

Thanks: 7%Finishedbooks

We didn't know if you made a final decision on this or not, so we are just advising you:

Due to the difficulty of finding mauve, lime, tangerine (orange), and bronze, we will allow those colors to appear in titles. Or where the color "pops."

Acceptable Examples: (color respective to above order)
Beautiful Creatures (Caster Chronicles, #1) by Kami Garcia Beautiful Redemption (Caster Chronicles, #4) by Kami Garcia One Flew over the Cuckoo's Nest by Ken Kesey The Diviners by Libba Bray

IN ADDITION:

Since Atomic Tangerine is such a difficulty color to find, even in the title of a book, we will allow Orange Prize books to be counted for this color.

Orange Prize for Fiction Winners
The Orange Prize for Fiction is one of the United Kingdom's most prestigious literary prizes, awarded annually for the best original full-length novel by a female author of any nationality, written in English and published in the UK in the preceding year.

Two listopias are:
Orange Prize for Fiction Winners
Orange Prize for Fiction Longlist

ilovebakedgoods (Teresa) (ilovebakedgoods) | 226 comments Thanks for the info, Mods! 99% sure we're using Cadet Blue's standings, as discussed somewhere around the Pewter Blue parts. Nobody has said they don't want to do that so I made an executive decision based on popular input.

Since Pewter & Cadet Blue are joining forces for the 7% Solution Challenge, we have selected those members to create our combined Team.

Anyone can see them on the second page of the Spreadsheet entitled "Pewter/Cadet Blue 7% Challenge Members."

This doesn't effect Category #1 - "Behind Enemy Lines." Doesn't really affect #2 & #3 - "ahead" and "behind" - either. This is more of an FYI for you.

ilovebakedgoods (Teresa) (ilovebakedgoods) | 226 comments I see it, Jex! Yay books!

I just discovered a big pile of books in a box that I've had by my fireplace for years, lol. I just never felt like digging around in the box. I found a few authors that I bought from a thrift store back when I lived in England (think 2005 or so, shhh) and they are authors I've been wanting to read! Yay, me!!

Then, I had a treasure hunt on the bookshelf in my garage. I came away dusty and full of sneezes, but also with about 4 plastic bags full of books I will find room for in my bedroom, hehehe. Most of them are books I've never even read. I'm terrible. I have a bazillion books at home and yet I still need weekly library visits to feel human, LOL!!

I'm jealous and seeing green
but happy for your lovely trove

ilovebakedgoods (Teresa) (ilovebakedgoods) | 226 comments Captain Cupcake is such a poet!

And that name makes me hungry all the time, LOL!!

Makes me wonder if my user name makes people crave baked goods ever...

Ahhh, the ponderings of a sleepy mind...

message 443: by Jex (new)

Jex (jexball) | 2227 comments The fun part is always maneuvering them to fit on the shelf because they don't fit. I have to double or triple stack them on the shelf. I'll post another pic once it's all done. So far I've found a bunch of duplicate books because I don't track my books very well.

It is neat, Jex. I love playing with and organizing books.

ilovebakedgoods (Teresa) (ilovebakedgoods) | 226 comments Duplicates! I found a few of those in my treasure hunts yesterday. Or the day before..whenever it was. Funny thing is, one set of duplicates is a book I kept thinking I needed to buy or borrow from the library, lol.

Lisa Kay (lisakayalicemaria) | 15159 comments LOL! Oh, dear.

message 447: by Jex (new)

Jex (jexball) | 2227 comments Yea...the thing that inspired me to organize was the fact that I swore I owned a certain book and couldn't find it. Turns out I don't own it....

ilovebakedgoods (Teresa) (ilovebakedgoods) | 226 comments ROFL! Oh my. I know I shouldn't laugh but that just seems so comical to me. You swear you have it, so you get into a rearranging frenzy only to find that not only do you not have that book but you have duplicates of others! Oopsie! Hehe.

Lisa Kay (lisakayalicemaria) | 15159 comments It is funny, Teresa.

Mary X (marymaryalwayscontrary) | 5588 comments Good to see that I am not the only one who likes to play with her books.

I have been purging a lot of books that my library has is multiples because my place is so small. I really need to reorganize what I have left.
