Steven (gallifreyan1218) | 824 comments Barb has some ideas for mini-challenges and such, and as she has experience with being a group moderator, I thought I'd leave her in charge of those! :)

I'll call it "delegation." :D

message 2: by Barb (new)

Barb Thanks, Steven :) If anyone else has any ideas or suggestions, please post them here. The more ideas we have to boost our reading, the better!

Barb To get things started, since we're the Mango Tango team, I thought we might do a mini-challenge to read as many books as we can by authors whose first or last names begin with either M or T, or whose titles begin with M or T. Let's give ourselves a week for this one -- till midnight Saturday, April 20, your own local time -- and see how we do :)

PROGRESS UPDATE - M and/or T author initials or word in title:

STEVEN - The Serpent's Shadow (Kane Chronicles, #3) by Rick Riordan

EVANA - M.C. Beaton - Death of a Dreamer (Hamish Macbeth, #22) by M.C. Beaton and Death of a Witch (Hamish Macbeth, #25) by M.C. Beaton / Mary Anna Evans - Relics by Mary Anna Evans / A Memory of Light (Wheel of Time, #14; A Memory of Light, #3) by Robert Jordan

BARB - The Trudeau Vector by Juris Jurjevics / Michael Connelly - The Black Echo (Harry Bosch, #1) by Michael Connelly

JANBREESMOM -

JANE - Wait For Me by Elisabeth Naughton / M.W. Muse - Goddess Legacy (Goddess Series, #1) by M.W. Muse / D'Elen McClain - Amy's Story (Fang Chronicles, #1) by D'Elen McClain

KARLA -

KAYLA -

MARIEE - Melissa Mayhue - Thirty Nights with a Highland Husband (Daughters of the Glen, #1) by Melissa Mayhue and Highland Guardian (Daughters of the Glen, #2) by Melissa Mayhue and Soul of a Highlander (Daughters of the Glen, #3) by Melissa Mayhue

NANCY M -

SALLIE (SHUGA) -

SHEILA -

.

I'll look and see what I can read with those letters as titles, after I finish the two I'm in now. :)

~Mariee~ | 6 comments Hi all,

The Author I am reading at the moment is called Melissa Mayhue so that should work?

So far I have read Thirty Nights with a Highland Husband (Daughters of the Glen, #1) by Melissa Mayhue Highland Guardian (Daughters of the Glen, #2) by Melissa Mayhue and have just started Soul of a Highlander (Daughters of the Glen, #3) by Melissa Mayhue

message 26: by Steven (new)

Steven (gallifreyan1218) | 824 comments Keep reading that series and you'll win the mini-challenge. All those Ms!!!

~Mariee~ | 6 comments :)

message 28: by Diane L (new)

Diane L I finished Relics by Mary Anna Evans Relics by Mary Anna Evans and went right out and grabbed the next in the series. I'll start it when I finished this last Wheel of Time tome.

message 29: by Barb (new)

Barb That certainly works, Mariee -- and you did it without even trying :)

message 30: by Barb (new)

Barb We've been talking about the possibility of doing occasional read-a-thons (RaTs) to help boost our team reading numbers a bit. Since everyone has different reading schedules, we wanted to see how you all feel about doing RaTs every six weeks or so -- or more often, if you all want! What seems to work best in my other group is to schedule a week-long RaT and just let each reader set his/her own goal/s for that time period. It could be a certain number of hours spent reading, or a page goal, or a goal of completing a specified number of books -- or even complete other reading challenges :)

What are your thoughts? Do you like the idea of RaTs, or should we drop it altogether? How do you feel about RaTs lasting a week? Would you rather they be shorter? Longer? Do you have any other ideas or suggestions?

Sallie(GeorgiaGirl) (shuga) hey everyone - steven sharpen that pencil...I have added 3 books finished to my shelf...
Margaret Mitchell's Gone with the Wind: A Bestseller's Odyssey from Atlanta to Hollywood, Gone Girl, & Gunmetal Magic...where does that put us now mr steven?

message 32: by Barb (new)

Barb Go Sallie go!!

message 33: by Steven (new)

Steven (gallifreyan1218) | 824 comments YAY SALLIE!!!! I'm about to finish one book, and am about 40% through another.

I also had an author contact me about a book I added to my to-read, and he gave me a free copy as long as I reviewed it. NICE! :D My pile is huge, but that was kind so I'll bump it up. Hopefully it's long enough to count, but if not, I will read it anyways. Authors need the exposure and feedback!

Barb, you know where I stand on your ideas. Everyone else, please chime in!

Sallie, I don't have time to update everything tonight (AWFUL headache) and I'm going to go finish the last few pages of this book and hit the hay soon, but I'll update it first thing tomorrow.

Sallie(GeorgiaGirl) (shuga) Ok hope u feel better. Get some rest I'm in a quandary as to what I want to read next. I have a couple of challenges that will announce the next categories so I'm sort of holding off for tomorrow & Saturday. Hey Barb any hints u want to throw my way? Jus kidding lol.

message 35: by Steven (new)

Steven (gallifreyan1218) | 824 comments Pick a short one to read while you wait, then it'll be easier to finish when the challenge is put up!!!

message 36: by Barb (new)

Barb Sallie(Shuga) wrote: "I have a couple of challenges that will announce the next categories so I'm sort of holding off for tomorrow & Saturday. Hey Barb any hints u want to throw my way? Jus kidding lol. "

LOL Sallie I can't tell you what it *won't be :) But you already know those!

message 37: by Diane L (new)

Diane L Finished A Memory of Light (Wheel of Time, #14; A Memory of Light, #3) by Robert Jordan A Memory of Light by Robert Jordan for the Mango Tango challenge.

The library called today to say I can pick up The Silver Linings Playbook by Matthew Quick which will also fit this challenge.

Regarding the RaT - I liked how we did it on A-Team. The week long window with individual goals worked for me. I also like the flexibility of someone being able to shift it a bit to accomodate family needs. I have a couple of challenges to try to finish in the next 4 weeks or so. I'd be happy to have our first RaT in that time frame to give me some incentive.

message 38: by Steven (new)

Steven (gallifreyan1218) | 824 comments Evana, that's a long one! Nice reading!!!!

message 39: by ~Mariee~ (new)

~Mariee~ | 6 comments Finished last night Soul of a Highlander (Daughters of the Glen, #3) by Melissa Mayhue , it was a fab book.

Sorry I've been absent, I've had a sickness bug for the last few days, it left me feeling really drained and awful. My little boy has started to be unwell this morning, and middle daughter was sent home from nursery feeling unwell this afternoon. Just need the eldest daughter to start and I'll have a house full of sick children :(, so may be quiet for the next few days and I doubt I'll get much reading done as middle daughter (she's 4) is very clingy and cries if I stray too far, plus she has a weak chest anyway, so she feels pretty rough when she's poorly.

On the plus side, Group read numbers look pretty good though, keep up the good work everyone.

Aw, ~Mariee~! I hope things get better soon.

message 42: by Barb (new)

Barb Ick Mariee; one sick kid is bad enough, but three? Not fun for Mom OR for the kids! Hope everyone feels lots better soon!

LK, love your Snoopy and Woodstock. They're my favorites :)

message 43: by Diane L (new)

Diane L Finished another for the challenge.
Death of a Witch (Hamish Macbeth, #25) by M.C. Beaton Death of a Witch by M.C. Beaton

message 44: by ~Mariee~ (new)

~Mariee~ | 6 comments Thanks Guys, we now have 3 sick children. Eldest held off until 3am this morning, and they are all fast asleep at the moment. I think we may be over the worst with the younger two, but middle daughters wheezy chest isn't sounding so good, so off to the hospital for a chest xray and more meds when Nanny gets here to look after the other two.

@Lisa Kay, I love Snoopy, I actually have a Snoopy phone cover :)

I've started Chasing Perfect (Fool's Gold, #1) by Susan Mallery but have only managed to read 2 pages in the last 36 hours, but I am loving the sound of a Read-a-thone!! Perfect excuse to catch up!!

Hope everyone has a great weekend.

message 45: by Barb (new)

Barb You're rocking this mini challenge, Evana!

Mariee, sorry to hear they're all sick now :( Hope you get a good report from the hospital.

message 46: by Diane L (new)

Diane L I'm ramping up for the group-wide RaT. I'm hoping to do 3000 pages for it. That is very doable for me with the amount of reading time available each day.
I've already picked out a book for the group color cover. The Maze Runner (Maze Runner, #1) by James Dashner for the green mango.
I've got a list of books I want to start with that is about 5 books long.
Bring on the challenge!!

message 47: by Steven (new)

Steven (gallifreyan1218) | 824 comments I think I'm going to set my goal at 750 pages also. I've been trying to exercise more and get outside more, and also have some events that first week. I might up it before the deadline if it appears I'll be passing it by too much. My pace has been slower the past few weeks too.

message 48: by Sallie(GeorgiaGirl) (last edited Apr 20, 2013 02:11PM) (new)

Sallie(GeorgiaGirl) (shuga) Since the challenge is not until May 1 - Im going to set my goal at 750 pages also & I like the books for May challenge myself...

message 49: by Barb (new)

Barb I'll add you to the list, Sallie :)

message 50: by Barb (new)

Barb I finished The Black Echo (Harry Bosch, #1) by Michael Connelly , my last book for our first mini-challenge, early this morning. It was my first encounter with Harry Bosch, but it won't be my last :)

Don't forget that this mini-challenge ends at midnight (your local time) tonight. If you've read any books that fit but haven't posted them here, please do so ASAP so I can post an accurate count of all of our books. Thanks :)
