I just finished the wonderful All the Light We Cannot See. For a complete change I've just started The Silkworm.

Started reading Rotten Gods by Greg Barron but I am not going to continue with it. There's too much of this going on for real at the moment. I am not in the mood to read it as fiction.

I'm at the last 90 pages of The Gilded Hour by Sara Donati and I don't want to read them because I don't want to story to end.

I'm about to listen to The Anchoress by Robyn Cadwallader.

Gosh! I actually anxious before I even start it, just thinking about her confinement, but curious to know what possesses a woman to such a thing, willingly!

And I've started on paperback Europa blues by Arne Dahl. Only 50 pages in but it feels like it might be a complex murder mystery. Plus the foreign names and place is doing my head in !!!

No I can't imagine it either. It's just so extreme, isn't it ? I didn't know what an Anchoress was until I saw you and Julie read the book, and then googled it....that's how naive I was.

I loved To the Top of the Mountain he does like to have a large host of characters which is hard to keep up with but I loved the way the different threads of the story all came together at the end.

I saw on a renovation show in UK, an old castle/mansion built around 1100 where a room very much like one where an Anchorite would go featured. Sadly, the owners has no idea what if was and tore down a wall, thus ruining the historical feature in their new purchase. What a waste!

You're right Veronica, so many different threads... I've counted 5 so far & I'm only just past 50 pages !! I've just re read your review, and I might start jotting the names down.

I'm having a bit of Judy Nunn fest at the moment, just finished..and thoroughly enjoyed these short stories..The House on Hill Street, The Wardrobe and about to start her most recent short story, The Otto Bin Empire: Clive's Story.
These are all fillers until I start reading Spirits of the Ghan for my December challenge. Really enjoying her writing :D

My local newspaper was delivered yesterday and browsing through it last night I saw that Judy Nunn was going to visiting a library not too far away. Unfortunately it was last Thursday so I missed that chance to go and listen to her. Hopefully there will be another one soon.

That's a bummer Carolyn, I would have preferred to see her at the library too as she has time to talk about her books at more length, I saw her at Dymocks bookstore in the city, and although we had a pretty good chat when things had slowed a bit, you still had to queue up to see her and get a signing.

I have just started the steampunk novella The Icarus Plot, written by Australian romance author Jenny Schwartz.

I didn't know she was a romance writer until after I bought the book, so here goes...

This afternoon, I finished two books:
Secret North and
All the Butterflies in the World . I gave both of them 5 stars. The second one was leaning towards being a 4 star... Until that incredible ending! Fantastic!

Reading Tricky Twenty Two by Janet Evanovich - love the Stephanie Plum books!

woo hoo! After complaining here about the price ($AUD72!!!!) of the audio download of the latest edition of the Number 1 Ladies Detective Agency The Woman Who Walked in Sunshine I asked the library to get it in. Lo and behold, they already had it available for download from Bolinda, and my reserve came up today, so I get to listen to it now for no payment at all! Aren't libraries wonderful!

I've just finished The Fairy Wren which was a page-turner with a supernatural twist. It was a fun, light read, and I enjoyed the contemporary Aussie setting.

That is a criminal price, Marianne. I'd pay that for a second or third edition of a much loved book but not [author:Alexander McCall Smith|4738], he's hardly Charles Dickens:)

Angela, in your comment box you'll see "add book/author" on the top right hand side - click on that and type in the book name (or ISBN) then "search". Once it comes up, click "add" on the correct one...there will be many to choose from! Then go back in and change it over to "author" at the top, and click "add" for your author....and there you'll have it!!! Sing out if you have trouble:)

My taste for the Victorian is piqued! I just started The Strange Case of Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde. Just like self-published stories, the classics can be so hit and miss.

I'm only 70 pages into The Secret Scripture by Sebastian Barry; is this book dark or what? It's sunny outside but all I'm feeling when reading is dark, ominous clouds gathering in the plot. I'm not sure I want to keep reading at this stage. I quite often read books which can have a depressing nature so it not like it's a foreign feeling for me. I don't know why this one has struck me so. I'll see how I go today and then decide...

I know, it's quite horrifying, isn't it, how they virtually ruled the congregation/people.

When I'm reading The Secret Scripture, I can't see anything light, everything and every scene seems to be shrouded in darkness. It's also a dark and cloudy day here so I think the weather is contributing to how I feel about the book. If I don't finish it this time, I will go back to do so at some stage, just now now.

Actually, it's hard to read at all this morning as I have five builders in the backyard, dismantling the old stable/laundry room. It's really noisy here...
