The Namesake

Help.Question. Doing a comparison of the novel to the movie

In the movie there's a scene between Moushumi and Ashima where Moushimi is making somosas with her mother and law and she suddenly asks, "Does it bother you that Ben isn't Indian?"
Is this scene in the book as well? I don't remember it being there, but I'm not sure
Thanks!

I don't really think there was a scene in the movie were Ashima and Moushumi were in the kitchen making Somosas with her mother and Ben is not indian so it really doesnt bother me that she wants to date an american man.

Just an overall impression, as usual I found the book much more stirring than the movie. On rare occasions, "The Help" being one, I like the movie better than the book, but that is truly a rare experience for me.
Even I too dont remember reading it. I somehow find many things fictionalized. Do you find the same?
