The main character in this book is Enoch Wallace, a Civil War veteran who has lived more than 120 years and is now the reclusive manager of an interstellar subway station of sorts. Must note that I'm not usually a science fiction reader but this book is wonderful. Mostly a story of loneliness. Gorgeous and though provoking.
