D.G. | 1370 comments Finished my first book Lover Mine by J.R. Ward and gave it 3 stars. I'm glad I read it but I'm not sure if I'll continue the series. I think the author is too much in love with her own writing that she's not paying attention to the story.

I finished Cinder, and loved it. 4 stars. I'm WAY behind on writing my book reviews, so thought I shouldn't wait for that to happen before I post this.

D.G. | 1370 comments Finished Texas Destiny and it was awesome! (Yup, I'm kicking butt, LOL!)

Finished Three Cups of Tea: One Man's Mission to Promote Peace ... One School at a Time and gave it 3*. I would have rated it higher but I kept remembering something about it being a fraudful claim. I will need to research that.

message 6: by Karen (new)

Karen (karenofthebookworm) Finished my first book The Einstein Pursuit, gave it 4*. Undemanding action and adventure that I really enjoyed.

I finished my second book, Alias Grace. My review here .

message 9: by Amy (new)

Amy | 2230 comments Finished my first two books:

And the Mountains Echoed - 3* - not as good as his first two books

So Cold the River - 3* - this read like a Stephen King book

message 10: by Fairlee (new)

Fairlee Corkran | 66 comments The ghost and Mrs. McClure-4 stars.

message 11: by Karen (new)

Karen (karenofthebookworm) Finished my third book, Let the Right One In - 3*. Thought the film was better.

Finished one -albeit short...

Proper Gauge (Wool #2)...Wow... really didn't expect the ending! 1 & 2 told from different perspectives so felt kinda different but it's getting very gritty and I think now I'm starting to see the what the hype it all about.

4 stars.

message 13: by Lauren (new)

Lauren (laurenjberman) | 1216 comments Finished my first book - In the Woods (Dublin Murder Squad, #1) by Tana French - the book is well-written and worth reading but might not appeal to readers, like myself, who prefer a sense of closure and justice in their mysteries and thrillers.

I finished my third book, The Executioness. Nice that it's a novella.

message 15: by Amy (new)

Amy | 2230 comments Finished my third book, The Light Between Oceans and gave it 3 1/2 stars. The character Isabelle annoyed me throughout the book, which kept me from upping my review to 4 stars.

Finished my second book, Absolute Fear. Gave it 4*.

message 17: by Candiss (new)

Candiss (tantara) I finally finished my first book, And Then There Were None by Agatha Christie. I gave it 3 stars but would give 3.5 if I could.

I love Christie, but I didn't enjoy this standalone title nearly as much as her Poirot mysteries, especially Murder on the Orient Express and The Murder of Roger Ackroyd. The ending felt implausible and a bit tacked on to me, and although I appreciate Christie's propensity to "break the rules" of the mystery genre, I felt she was deliberately trolling the reader (to use the vernacular) with some of her stunts here. Aside from the ending, there were a few too many convenient coincidences, characters (purported to be quite savvy) being dense and slow to catch on at the worst possible times, and some plot points I felt came across (at least to a modern reader) as just plain silly.

(One bit that particularly vexed me: Several men, at various points, become upset, agitated and escalated by fear, anger, etc., and this is fine with the rest of the company...seen as understandable under the circumstances. A woman becomes upset - while trying to actually convey important information about what is going on that might actually help the company defend themselves - and she is slapped by a man. And then she THANKS HIM for it. ARGH.)

I know this is many readers' favorite Christie, but I think I'll stick with Poirot and maybe give Miss Marple a try. :)

I finished So Cold the River on 10/14, but only just now got around to reviewing it. I enjoyed it, but only 3-stars worth. My review here .

My fourth of four. Done for this round.

message 19: by Amy (new)

Amy | 2230 comments Finished my fourth and final book, Original Sin and gave it 2 1/2 stars. It jumped back and forth between the past and present and dragged a bit. I listened to the audiobook with my husband and we both felt that something was missing.

Finished my second book... geez, I've been really slow the last few months!

Jasper Jones for 5 stars! It was amazing -really enjoyed the vibrant descriptive prose. The words he chose really brought the book alive to me. Loved it!

Finished my third for the 3 book team - Aunt Dimity Down Under. Gave it 4*. A fun read on the order of a cozy mystery, although I did not think there was much mystery to the story. At least not a who-done-it mystery.

message 22: by D.G. (new)

D.G. | 1370 comments I finished a third book Hold Me Closer, Necromancer (Necromancer, #1) by Lish McBride and totally loved it! Great combination of humor and urban fantasy. The audio is hilarious!

Will we be doing another cycle? And, if so, is the sign-up coming soon?

My vote is yes. I enjoy the chance to be involved, more one-one-one, with other group members.

You read my mind, Susan... I was about to message Lyn but since you've posted, I might as well post the sign-up and then Lyn can deal with the rest of it, ha ha ha ;p
