Tia Jenkins (tia_jenkins) Shatter Me by Tahereh Mafi

Finished: Oct. 11
Rating: 5 stars
Review: This book was the first book in the series. I really liked this book. Tahereh Mafi puts a new twist on a dystopian society. The girl Juliette has a special "gift" that she and most others think is a curse. When she touches people she can kill them. In this book it's about her fighting back against the people who want her to use her "gift" to bring them power and control over others. I definitely want to read the rest of the series.

Sheila (sheilaj) Ok, looking good team. Hopefully we will have smooth sailing from here on out. My book is by an author who is new to me so I am anxious to see what it is like. Happy reading everyone.

The Last Temptation (Tony Hill & Carol Jordan, #3) by Val McDermid The Last Temptation by Val McDermid

This is the third in the fantastic British Crime novels featuring profiler Tony Hill and CID Carol Jordan. In this story Tony is tasked to work up a profile of a suspected serial murderer who is crossing European borders. Carol has been given the dangerous job of going under cover in a drug crime lords world merely because she has a very close resemblance to his dead fiancé. Both our heroes end up in trouble. Good tense drama. I give it ★★★★

BTW there is a very good TV show on PBS based upon this series of books called Wire in the Blood. The shows are very true to the books.

Review: In this, the 3rd book in the series, we finally become acquainted with Dr. Maura Isles. I was beginning to wonder why the series was named after both Rizzoli and Isles, as Isles is not in the first book and not much more than a secondary character in the second. But in The Sinner, we get to know the medical examiner and get a better idea of the person behind the cold "Queen of the Dead" exterior. While the story didn't excite me as much as the previous two, it was still a solid tale of suspense, and I'm curious to continue the journey with these characters.

Review:This is the third book of the series. I'm really starting to like this series more and more with each book. Judd Lauren and Brenna Kincaid Shane are a truly well matched couple. Judd is the only person that Brenna will listen too without fighting back too much. I despise the Psy Council in all of their ways towards humans, Psy, and Changelings. I look forward to the next book in the series.

Angie ~aka Reading Machine~ (wolffaerie17) | 2160 comments I've got two books to choose from Caressed By Ice (Psy-Changeling, #3) by Nalini Singh or Serpent's Kiss (Elder Races, #3) by Thea Harrison just not sure which book to read yet.

I read Sudden Prey (Lucas Davenport, #8) by John Sandford Sudden Prey by John Sandford
which is book 8 in the Lucas Davenport series.

Lucas is deputy chief of the Minneapolis Police Department and he and his team stake out a team of bank robbers. In the process of capturing them 2 robbers are killed.

Meanwhile the husband and brother of the 2 women shot escapes from prison and is set on revenge. An eye for an eye so he starts killing the wives of the cops. Throw in a crooked cop that keeps the criminals informed of every move the cops are going to make and this was an intense and violent story that had me wanting to keep reading. I give it ★★★★

Review: While I liked this more than I was expecting, the resolution of the mystery felt sort of insignificant compared with the build up. I'm not going to race to read the next book, but I'll probably get around to reading more in the series at a later date. I did appreciate that while romance was hinted at and sexual tension was definitely present, it didn't dominate the story. Too often sex is all a series has going for it, so it was refreshing to have a female character not throw herself at the male leads.

Tia Jenkins (tia_jenkins) Reading: :The Hunger Games by Suzanne Collins

Finished: Oct 18
Rating: 5 stars
Review: The Hunger Games is the first book in the series. It is an interesting Dystopian book. Katniss Everdeen volenteers in place of her sister to enter what is known as the Hunger Games. She fights for her life battling Careers, Deadly Bees and Love. I highly recommend this to others.

message 70: by Sheila (new)

Sheila (sheilaj) Is this your first time reading Hunger Games Tia? I don't read a lot of YA books but I loved the entire Hunger Games Trilogy. I didn't get a chance to see the movie though. sigh.

message 71: by Jenne (new)

Jenne (jennetheinstigator) | 7439 comments It is soooo good! The movie did pretty good staying true to the book. My biggest complaint about the movie was not getting to hear Kat's inner dialogue.

message 72: by Tia (new)

Tia Jenkins (tia_jenkins) No it's not my first time. I have read it before. I thought they did a good job with the movie as well. I was pleasantly surprised. I can't wait for the next one :)

message 73: by Sheila (new)

Sheila (sheilaj) Yes, her thinking process would be something that I would miss but how would they do that in a movie?

message 74: by Tia (new)

Tia Jenkins (tia_jenkins) I don't think they could do that.

message 75: by Jenne (new)

Jenne (jennetheinstigator) | 7439 comments Right you can't but I loved those parts of the books. My 13 yr old just read it the other day and I waited to watch it until he'd finished. My hubby watched it with us and he even liked it (totally not like him) (view spoiler) I'm hoping my son hurries up and finished Catching Fire so we can see it at the theater. It was my favorite out of the 3.

message 76: by Tia (new)

Tia Jenkins (tia_jenkins) Mine too. I reread the books every time a movie comes out. Did you know they are splitting mockingjay into two movies.

message 77: by Jenne (new)

Jenne (jennetheinstigator) | 7439 comments Nope hadn't heard that.

message 78: by Sheila (new)

Sheila (sheilaj) That seems to be the way they do things now. They did it with Lord of the Rings and Harry Potter. They just have to get that last dollar out of you.

My next movie that I am waiting for is the Hobbit

message 79: by Tia (new)

Tia Jenkins (tia_jenkins) Yeah. I guess it's so they can put more information in it since its the last book. Like they did with breaking dawn.

message 83: by Tia (new)

Tia Jenkins (tia_jenkins) Well they are greedy but I actually like when they make more movies. It ensures they will get most of what happened in the book in it rather than completely chopping out important parts.

Review:I love this series! Each book is so individual and unique for the characters. Aedan is tricked into the service of UnSeelie King for 500 years instead of 5 years Aedan thought it was. Seelie Queen sees a way to help Aedan thru the Dreaming with his one true mate. Jane is a would be writer that's faced alot of rejection by editors. When an unexpected package changes her life forever.

The Girl Who Disappeared Twice by Andrea Kane The Girl Who Disappeared Twice by Andrea Kane

This was my first book by Andrea Kane and boy was this a good one. First in the Forensic Instincts series as well. Forensic Instincts is an elite group of people that get called in to solve a crime when the police and FBI can't solve it. In this book a family hires them to solve the kidnapping of their 6 year old daughter. There are lots of twists and turns in this story but I loved it. ★★★★

Review:This is my first experience with this author and I'm suitably impressed. Ashlee Morrison believes herself crazy and that she can hear wolves talking to her. Tristan Kane is trapped in wolf form due to spell and has no way to contact his family. Tristan believed that all female wolves dead out due to the curse. He never expected to find his mate where he is trapped the local zoo. Can the curse be stopped?

Review: Such a great continuation. Second books have to be a bridge taking us from the introduction to the finale. They can be amazing, exploring more in-depth into what we've already learned, getting the reader pumped up for how it's all going to play out, or they can feel like filler. Thankfully, Pullman does the former. I think I may have liked this one more than the first. And the cliffhanger ending...I need to get to the last book!

Finished 10/26

Boston detective DD Warren is the lead investigator on the seemingly serial murders of pedophiles when she is approached by a woman asking her to investigate HER murder. The woman is convinced she will be murdered on January 21 just as her 2 best friends have been murdered on that date the last 2 years prior.

At first DD figures the woman is some kind of nutcase but when she starts doing some preliminary investigation she realizes there may be something to what the woman is saying. I love this series and now I am all caught up at least until January when book 7 is due to be released. ★★★★ as all of this series has been.

Review: This the second installment in the Chronicles of Prydain, and recipient of a Newbery honor, tells of the continuing adventures of Taran, assistant pig-keeper, and his companions. It's a fun middle-grade high fantasy that is also filled with real-world wisdom. Taran is becoming a man, which includes lessons of the meaning of adulthood and the loss of ignorant innocence. One of my favorite moments comes near the end of the story, when Taran and Gwydion, a warrior who Taran idolizes, talk about good and evil: "...in most of us good and bad are closely woven as the threads on a loom; greater wisdom than mine is needed for the judging."
