A Darkness More Than Night (Harry Bosch, #7) by Michael Connelly A Darkness More Than Night by Michael Connelly - (Terry McCaleb #2)

This was an interesting book because it combined main characters from 3 different Michael Connelly series'. Terry McCaleb - ex FBI profiler, Harry Bosch - LA homicide detective and Jack McEvoy - reporter. I also enjoy the crossovers on TV and I certainly enjoyed it in this book. Really interesting to see how the different characters that are the "stars" in their own books interact with each other. It kind of made me forget that these are all fictional characters from the mind of Michael Connelly. I was thinking things like "You suspect Harry Bosch? Are you freakin' kidding me?" Ha.

In this story McCaleb is brought in to investigate a series of murders that point to Harry Bosch as the killer. Good book ★★★★'s

Finished: 10/28/13

Review: With his family situation now changed, Artemis finds himself faced with the possibility of leaving behind his nefarious childhood for boarding school and normality. Not one to give in easily, Artemis makes time for one last adventure, which may not only be the end of his life of crime, but also the end of all contact with the fairy world. Full of humor and action, The Eternity Code continues the fun of the Artemis Fowl series.

Review: the Goddess Interrupted is the second book in the series. It takes plae right after Kate comes back from her 6 months away from the underworld. She is supposed to become queen but the gods end up having to go to war with Kronos. This series is a new twist on Greek mythology and I highly recommend this to other mythology lovers.

Listening Woman (Navajo Mysteries, #3) by Tony Hillerman Listening Woman by Tony Hillerman - (Navajo Mysteries #3)

This book is # 3 in a series set in the Navajo Reservation. It combines modern day detective work with the sensitivities and traditions of the Navajo Indians. In this story Detective Joe Leaphorn is investigating a double murder that occurred during a sacred healing ceremony. This involves into much more when a group of boy scouts is kidnapped from a jamboree. Things get personal when one of the suspects tries to kill Joe by running him off the road. Good book ★★★★'s

She added a twist to the book that made it the best one so far. Anyone who loves supernatural or paranormal books will definitely love this one. I highly recommend it.

Review: I'm going to miss the adventures of the Parasol Protectorate! Prudence is a terribly wonderful toddler, Alexia is hilarious in her maternal role (why can't her daughter speak in clear, complete sentences at the age of two!?!), and Conall Maccon is probably the sexiest werewolf ever! This, the fifth and final of the series, takes Alexia to the exotic locale of Egypt after being summoned by the world's oldest vampire. Of course, antics ensue with the help of our lovely and fun secondary characters. As always, a witty steampunk romp!

Sheila (sheilaj) November 3rd read to space 39 - Finished 11/4

Murder at Monticello (Mrs. Murphy, #3) by Rita Mae Brown Murder at Monticello by Rita Mae Brown (Mrs. Murphy #3)

This was number 3 in the Mrs. Murphy series. What I didn't realize was that Mrs. Murphy is a cat. I don't read a lot of what are called mystery "cozies" and now I know why. It drove me nuts when the cat was narrating the story and her and the dog were discussing history.

I did enjoy the history lesson though. I've been to Virginia many times and have toured Monticello. In the story there is an archeologist hired by the historical society to restore one of the slave cabins. What they didn't expect was to find the skeleton of a well dressed gentleman ie a white man with a crushed skull buried under the fireplace hearth.

I am being generous in giving this book ★★'s. The best thing I can say about this book was that it was short.

Finished: 11/5/13

Review: Jewels, disguises, royalty, secret marriages, even the Ku Klux Klan! These twelve short stories cover a gamut of topics, but they all seem to use the same tricks at the end of the day. I feel Watson, who is the narrator and it seems to me written to be on the same level as the reader, comes across as incredibly dense at times. Maybe it's the modern reader that I am, who has been exposed to numerous mysteries and the cliches that are often a part of the storytelling, but Sherlock Holmes doesn't seem that special, most of his conclusions, I had already reached, and sometimes I felt that his deductions were no more than guesses that turned out to be correct (because Doyle wanted them to be). But, the stories were sometimes fun, and I'm curious to see if one of the novel-length stories has more development and would be better.

This was a pretty spooky story that takes place in post-Katrina New Orleans. An ancient marble bust of a long dead Roman nobleman seems to have special powers. It is much sought after and is stolen by numerous characters who all end up dead.

This book captures the mysterious environments that are iconic New Orleans and incorporates the voodoo practices. I give it ★★★★'s

If Betsy were just a vampire, she'd be busy, a tell-all book is being published about her life, she's trying not to drink blood, and she's getting ready to celebrate her first year as one of the undead. But Betsy's not human, and she's not just a vampire. She's the Queen of the vampires, and she has to deal with all of the above, plus political machinations and all of the other responsibilities that her title entails. Don't let all this stress concern you, though. Betsy's life is still mostly just hilarious, and this book continues the fun you've come to expect!
