Anima Miejska | 1698 comments Welcome to the challenge, Rebecca. I've read The Book Thief, an amazing book, I have Ender's Game planned this month, and you have some other interesting books on your list, so I may use it as a recommnedation for my tbr list :)
Have a great time reading!

Tessa | 75 comments Such a nice list, but really, you can skip City of bones :(.

message 4: by Becka (new)

Becka (becka_anne) Thanks guys! I have been trying to mix in books that I have been meaning to read for a while, books I have never heard of and books that are sat on my shelf.

I have been meaning to read The Book Thief since it first came out Anima, and have it on my to-read stack at home but haven't got round to it yet. As for the list, for some new books that promise to be good I looked on Richard and Judy's book club - Which is surprisingly good each season!

Did you not enjoy City of Bones Tessa? I have heard very mixed reviews about it and am not sure. Once I have got home and checked my bookshelf this may be one I will swap out.

message 5: by Diane-OP (new)

Diane-OP REbecca,
What is Richard and Judy's book club? Is it online or in a city? If online, can you share the URL?
Thanks!

message 6: by Becka (new)

Becka (becka_anne) Richard and Judy is a morning tv show in the UK and they do a book club where they talk to the authors etc. They usually pick great books.

That is their website, obviously the deals to buy books only work in the UK but the books they select are always worth a read.

message 7: by Tessa (new)

Tessa | 75 comments No, I did enjoy it, but the story is unfinished and each new book makes less sens than the previous one. :(

message 8: by Diane-OP (new)

Diane-OP Rebecca,
Thanks for the URL! I'm always interested in new sources for recommendations; especially if they come from UK sources.

message 9: by Becka (new)

Becka (becka_anne) Oh I see Tessa, I haven't found anything else I would like to read that is a 'c' yet but I probably will by the time I have read books A&B!

You are welcome Diane, like I said, I have always found Richard & Judy good, if ever I have run out of books to read (which is not often!) I look to see what they are reading.

Tessa | 75 comments I'm here to serve:
- Cracked Up to Be by Courtney Summers
- Collins Suzanne - The Hunger Games
- Coelho Paulo - Veronika decides to die
- Christopher Lucy - Stolen

All the above are favorites of mine and describes as amazing by many :) .

Also, wanna do a buddy read for All the Truth That's in Me? I'm very excited for that one. It has very good reviews :) .

Thank you for the link. I signed up for email and I hope I will find some great new books :)

Mollydee | 23 comments Rebecca, I am a little confused. Are you doing this on your own, or inviting us to take the challenge? Because it is a cool idea. I just joined Å·±¦ÓéÀÖ last month so I figured out, for the spot that you fill in, how many books I want to finish by the end of the year. But it will not be a lot since it is just going from September to the end of December. I want to set a goal for next year, but I do not want to have my hand in too many things. I know anything I read will count for the year 2014 when it is time, but as opposed to going randomly, it would be cool to add something extra. And again, if we are all following this list, there can be discussion I am assuming?

message 13: by Mollydee (new)

Mollydee | 23 comments Joyland is a great pick.

for M, although the book looks good, I would like you to take a look at a book "May We Be Forgiven" by A.M. Homes. It was one of the best books I have read in a long time. So much so I already have another book sitting here by Homes to read. :)

message 14: by Becka (last edited Oct 15, 2013 01:06PM) (new)

Becka (becka_anne) Hey Mollydee. The way A-Z challenges work is that everyone writes their own individual list and timeline.
This list is lots of the books I've been wanting to read for ages and some I happen to have on my shelf, so I won't change it.
But you can set up your own personal challenge, and I don't mind if you borrow books of my list :) And lots of other people have done their own so you can borrow books of them too. You can also make it as easy/hard as you want.

In terms of your goal for next year, Å·±¦ÓéÀÖ give you the option to set a goal for a number of books and then track how many you have read and what % you are at, so that's a good way to track it :)

message 15: by Becka (new)

Becka (becka_anne) I'll have a look at 'May we be forgiven', it sounds interesting. I might put it on my list to read for next year.

okay that sounds good. Yes I am very excited to set my goal for next year. I do not know if you have seen my profile I was not able to read for 14 years so I am reading everything I can! So as part of my goal I may set up and a-z list. I just joined goodreads in September so if I look through my to read books, plus what I have on my actual shelf, I bet I have a-z or close. And if not I will check out yours (thanks for letting me borrow!)

Yes take a look at "May We Be Forgiven" I made a joke that if you want to sell a book, do the cover in orange. I had a list the first time I went to Barnes and Noble and they did not have my books. only available on nook. So I let the books speak to me. I came home with three books. Orange is the New Black was one of them. Incredible too btw. Next time I went they also did not have what I wanted. May We...is an orange cover, with a lamp. The lampshade is cream color and the lamp base is black with the name of the book in it. But yes, it is just a great story. I did not do a proper review on it. But like I said it was so good I plan on reading all of her books. Thanks again for replying :)

Sorry Tessa, I've only just read your message somehow.
Oh, those are some good suggestions, I will definitely have a look at those.
Actually, a buddy read would be brilliant. Is starting November 1st okay for you?

Mollydee - It sounds like it is going to be very exciting for you to set your goal this year. You're welcome for the borrowing, I will let you know how I get on with the books :)

Well, I am thinking of one day writing and publishing a book so maybe I will publish it in an orange cover!

message 19: by Becka (new)

Becka (becka_anne) Is anyone else finding that there are loads of good books under a few letters? I want to read about 10 D's, 15 S's 5 U's and 10 R's - but struggled to find a book to read under some other letters. I suppose that is why its harder when you only work by Book title. If I worked by author and book title I would be able to work a few more books in.

message 20: by Anima (new)

Anima Miejska | 1698 comments There are also listopias with books starting with some letters, ei. x, y, z, k and m.

message 21: by Becka (new)

Becka (becka_anne) I had to consult a few of those lists for the more difficult letter. I suppose it's good in some ways, It definitely helps diversify what I am reading.

message 22: by Anima (new)

Anima Miejska | 1698 comments I found some of them inspiring while I was searching for my A-Z challenge books :), there are so many possibilities, that I was able to fill in some difficult letters for two or three other lists :)

I had that same problem! I have a bunch for one letter and difficulty finding anything for others. Anima's suggestion for listopia is good. You can always find some different reads there. Also, if you want suggestions for any specific letters, just let us know. The group is really good about making recommendations and some of us have been doing this for a while so we know a lot of books for different letters.

message 25: by Becka (new)

Becka (becka_anne) That is good. Are you participating in many other challenges?

message 26: by Becka (new)

Becka (becka_anne) Thanks Kristie. I think I have found enough for now - Maybe I will do the challenge again once I have finished it this time and will definitely need some help then!

message 27: by Becka (new)

Becka (becka_anne) I have decided to postpone and start in January - It makes more sense and as I have a lot of reading to do before that time it makes life much easier :)
