Silver I do not normally read Memoirs but it was just by chance that I happened to come across the book Red Azalea and something about it caught my interest so I picked it up.

Thus far I am finding to be a truly engaging read that has a wonderful flow like a novel. It is about the authors struggles growing up under the rule of Mao in China, not topic of which I really knew much about.

It is both rather fascinating and disturbing to read, as some of the things within this book seem to have come right out of Gerome Orwell's 1984.

In spite of her struggles, and the cruel oppression she and her people undergone, Anchee Min still is able to hold on to her hope and love. She was an incredibly strong person yet was still able to keep her compassion in spite of the things she witnessed and was made to do.
