POTS Cycle #5 - Group 2

Also, if you can, can you please pick at least one book that has been on my TBR since 2012 or older? (I'm trying to work on old books from the TBR instead of always picking the shiny new ones!) This is nice to have, NOT a requirement. Obviously if you know of a good book that I MUST read right away that I just added yesterday, please feel free to pick it. ;)
My picks for DG
Old book on TBR - Whitney, My Love
Oh, my goodness. I am not a romance reader at all but I thoroughly loved this book! I do hope you enjoy it as much as I did!
Caleb's Crossing - This was a 5* read for me.
Theme book: A Christmas Promise shows iceskaters, snow and an evergreen. This definitely seems like Christmas to me.
-----------
Edited: Oh gee, I missed one book.
Grey Mask - This one is on my own TBR but I just have not gotten it done.

My picks for Tien:
Theme book: Lighthouse Bay. Chosen in honor of Australia Day - beach, bay, summer.
The Harmony Silk Factory. This is the oldest book on your shelf. Looks really interesting.
Captivate. Highest rated book on your shelf.
Thirteen Steps Down. Ruth Rendell is a classic mystery writer. Loved her books.

My picks for Amy:
Theme book: Palisades Park. (Thank you, Tien, for Australia Day - beach, surf, summer!)
Blood Work - Michael connelly is one of my favorite authors. I have not read this book, so I will be interested in what you think if you choose to read it.
Alex Cross, Run - Your most read author.
A Dog Named Boo: How One Dog and One Woman Rescued Each Other--and the Lives They Transformed Along the Way - OK, so I like dog books. This one sounds interesting.
Last Man Standing - Oldest book on your shelf
The Wise Man's Fear - Highest rated on your shelf
Marlin, Darlin': Garnet Sullivan Live from Florida #1 - Under 300 pages so should be a quick read.
Angels Flight - Just could not resist adding another Michael Connelly book to the list. I do enjoy his books.

I confess I haven't read any of the books on your shelf so I just picked whatever looked interesting. The first selection is the theme book (turkey in cover!) but I also picked a few from authors I know, the oldest in the list and the one with the highest rating.

I haven't read any books on your list either so I went mostly with familiar authors or books that have been recommended to me. I picked the first book as the theme book (where I live, we use tons of scarves during the Holidays, LOL!)

Like my previous picks, I haven't read any and chose them as follows: the first one is your theme book (in honor of Australia day...beach in the cover!), the second cover just looked interesting, the third is a book that came highly recommended and the last I had to pick because it was the only naked chest cover I saw in all your shelves, LOL!

Thanks, DG! I really like the choices and now will have the problem of deciding which to read!

LOL @DG's picks, we are trying to stretch you, aren't we! I have to confess that I was looking at your shelf last night and got really confused about which to choose, ha ha ha... I kept going back to authors I know on your shelf :p
Was too tired to actually post my picks last night so I'll do that soon-ish :)
And thanks for my books, DG & Bea.

ps: it's the nominated number of books plus 1
So really, since I asked for 2 books, each of you should only be picking 3 books for me (including a themed one) though feel free to recommend extra if there's something I really really really should read ;)

LOL, I know! Totally hilarious.
I just came from an interview - I think it went great - and now I'm having a pint!

Best of luck, DG! actually, I don't even know what you do?
I'm still chugging down my Jumbo sized Skinny Cap ;)

oh, my goodness! So DG & Tien - throw out one of my picks for each of you...and Amy you can throw out three of my picks for you! I somehow thought it was 2x the number of books elected to read. Boy am I confused!
So, Tien, if it is number of books I chose to read +1, then i get to eliminate one of the picks you did for me, right? 4+1 = 5.
Or does it make 6 when the theme book is added? In which case DG & Tien's lists from me are fine and Amy is the only one who can eliminate (2).
Going to bed now...really confused!

yes, I should really only post 5 books for you.
it doesn't matter, just pick whichever book you've like to read... just remember for next cycle, it's the chosen number of book plus one including theme book. :)

DG, I checked the rules link in post #1, and Tien is correct. Looks like you and I were on the same wrong page.

LOL
I guess it's good to mix people up now and then.
I'd say the rule of "number of books nominated plus one" is really the basic so we can just use it as rule of thumb... there really isn't anything to stop you from picking more if you like to. Shall we just make that 'rule' the minimum?

Theme: Between Shades of Gray (snow on the cover...white Xmas...I know, a stretch)
The Stolen Child
Kane and Abel
For Tien:
Theme: Lighthouse Bay (beach - Australia day)
Devil's Corner
Gone Girl
For Bea:
Theme: One Foot In The Gravy (love that title!)
The Fool's Run
Shallow Graves
Critical Conditions
Finding Moon

These are the ones that are calling out to me:

But I may change my mind as the week's progress. I won't start right away but I'll try to pick up in between reading for another challenge I'm in.
Finished High Five. Gave it 4*. Quick read because it is so much fun and so impossible! i love all the characters and would really like to ogle Ranger. Just the right amount of danger and sex, I am thinking.
I have started Stay since it is a library book, but I am thinking I will also start Shallow Graves because I want to finish it by 11/30/13 for another group.

Finished Rain by Karen Duve. Gave it 3*. Disturbing and strange.
Finished Shallow Graves by Jeffery Deaver. Gave it 4*. A favorite author of mine.
Done with my 4 books!
Ready for the new game, Tien.

So, we're nagging now? LOL
Be patient, Bea, we're nearly there. As I said to my son, "we're just going to have to learn TO WAIT." ha ha ha
I'm going to post a variation to 'moving mountain' for 2014 soon-ish so you can start that, if you like...
OR... Looks like our Freedom Tower is still standing strong!
And... didn't you have a stack of LOST books to get through?
;p

I scanned the first part to remind myself of the story and then picked up on page 608 - right in the middle of French history lesson, the least exciting part for me.

Yay, I've finished reading 1 book (which I had to read as blog tour is coming up, well, starting today, I think but my stop is next week)
I read Captivate by Vanessa Garden. I'm really sad to say this but I think I'd only be rating it around 2-2.5 stars as the world was just too un-believable to me. It was an interesting premise but I just couldn't believe it. Plus, there was too much confusion on the profusion of feelings like the author doesn't know where to go with these either. ugh.
Don't think I'd be posting a review for my stop...

Ah, Bea, it's highest rated but it's probably only been read by a handful of people [who happened to love it] as it's not released til next month, I think.
