I think if you mean you felt confused like a teenager. I thought the book was strange. Like did Holden ever answer the question where do the ducks go when the lagoon freezes over in central park? So why did he make a big deal over it? He mentions it in at least three places and maybe more than that, but I don't remember him coming to a conclusion.
But I hope you treated your self to the music on the carousel. Remember when you listen to it that it was playing fast so that the people sounded like Mickey mouse. Also consider that it took Salinger 10 years to write this book. So either you didn't really read it as well as you thought or Salinger had a better attention span. I hope you will check out my discussion /topic/show/...

Sometimes the world is just as confusing to live in for adults as teenagers.

No it didn't make me confuse, it made me depressed. It just remembered me how I used to hate everybody, hate humanity when I was a teen. At the same time, I wanted to be done with this book, and felt the impulse to finish it. I didn't mean it wasn't a good book, like I said, it is a good book, what I mean when I say I didn't enjoy it, is it was a painful read, because it's was partly annoying, frustrating, boring and depressing. I felt the same exact feeling than the character. I felt as bored and depress as he was.

Like being in a bad relationship, you don't want to break it, but it makes you feel horrible.

Megan (lahairoi) | 7470 comments Finished my first selection - And the Mountains Echoed by Khaled Hosseini. I love this author and the beautiful characters, descriptions, and story really shine. However, the overall story was a bit more disjointed than Hosseini's other books. Still an thoroughly enjoyable read! Definitely worth reading! 4 stars

1/10

message 264: by Lynn (new)

Lynn (lmelliott) | 686 comments I'm 4 of 10 for this challenge. I didn't report And the Mountains Echoed (finished 01/05/14). Yesterday I finished Fall of Giants and didn't realize it was on this list until I saw Maiko's post above. I'd like to up my goal to 15.

message 265: by Ashley (new)

Ashley | 24 comments Add me for seven. Just figured out this challenge and I currently have 7 of the books on the list.

°ä³ó±ô´Çé (fullmetalclo) | 573 comments Still some editing for the list to do:
Life of Pi is there 2 times at #6 and #187.
1984 is there 2 times at #9 and #274.

One Shot(Jack Reacher #9 ) should be changed for Killing Floor(Jack Reacher #1)

Heir of Stone(The Cloudmages Book 3) and Mage of Clouds(The Cloudmages, book2) should be removed, because they're not first of a series and Holder of Lightning(The Cloudmages book 1) is already there.

message 279: by Cosmic (new)

message 280: by Erika (new)

Rebecca

This was so delightfully twisty.

°ä³ó±ô´Çé (fullmetalclo) | 573 comments Cosmic wrote: "How do you add a book to the list?"

At the top of the list you have all votes, next to it you have add a book to the list click on that.

Limit yourself to 5 books, make sure the book you add is the first of a series (By example do not add Harry Potter 4, but Harry Potter one instead). Make sure the book isn't already in the list to avoid duplicated books.

You can vote on as many books you like in the list (vote for this book button below the book cover).

message 282: by Jeff (new)

Jeff Connon I will go for 12 if its not to late.

message 289: by Debbie (new)

Debbie | 28 comments ok not sure if I have done this right. used link and went to list. voted on 9 books. so now I read these 9 books through the year. have I git it right ??

message 290: by °ä³ó±ô´Çé (last edited Feb 07, 2014 04:22PM) (new)

°ä³ó±ô´Çé (fullmetalclo) | 573 comments Oh not exactly. You vote on book you've read and you want to recommend. If you've read them and hate them, then you shouldn't vote. If you haven't read them yet, you shouldn't vote for now, but could after you read them if you love them. The book you choose to read for the challenge, you just post them on the forum.
Something like:

Goal 0/9 book
1. Title of the book
2. Title of the book
and so on.

Or you can just post the title as you finished them and maybe write a little something about you're appreciation, so Adriana knows to adjust your progress on the first page goals list.

message 291: by Lynn (last edited Feb 08, 2014 01:39PM) (new)

Lynn (lmelliott) | 686 comments Just finished my 5th book for this challenge -Rebecca by Daphne du Maurier. Great book and I never would have read it on my own. Can you increase my goal to 15 books please?

Adriana | 3888 comments Debbie wrote: "ok not sure if I have done this right. used link and went to list. voted on 9 books. so now I read these 9 books through the year. have I git it right ??"

Adding to Chloe ~ the list is to see what books you would like to read that group members have recommended. So you like the ones you've already read and enjoyed but you set a goal and read all the books you want that you haven't read.

message 293: by Dana (new)

Dana (elkins_88) | 458 comments Just finished Neverwhere by Neil Gaiman- number 18 on the list. Not my cup of tea, but glad I took a shot at it. Brings me to 2 of 8 of my goal.
