I'm Kelly, and I blog at . I'm fairly new to blogging; I've been figuring things out as I go along for the past 8 months or so.

Though I'm grateful when an author contacts me to review his/her work, I'd like to have a bit more say in the selection of what I read and review. I've started thinking about sending direct requests to publishers to request books that I'm most interested in featuring. Have any of you done this? If so, how do you know when to request? If a book is coming out in, say, six months, do you wait until closer to the release date to request it? And what should my stats look like in order to be appealing enough to be approved?

I know this is a lot of questions, but if you have answers/ideas for even one of them, I'd really appreciate it.

The publishers don't have that many paper galleys that they give out, so most go through NetGalley or other e-Galley providers. I'd suggest if you haven't done it already that you sign up at NetGalley and then request galleys there. A few of the publishers from whom I've requested galleys and reviewed books have put me on automatic okay status, so I can download books to my Kindle right after I request them. This is the easiest way of working with the publishers since you don't have to find the right publicist for each title.

I second Netgalley - no you don't get print copies but you can select from a wide variety of books to read/review. I like being able to send to my Kindle versus downloading and then uploading to another reader.
