Michael Brookes (technohippy) I've posted my top 5 reads for 2013:

What were yours?

Char | 17389 comments I did not enjoy Floating Staircase as much as you did, Michael. :(
I did buy Scream of Angels though.

Here is my top ten of the year (meaning I read them this year, not that they came out this year:

Michael Brookes (technohippy) Half the fun is learning peoiple's different tastes - it would be a boring world otherwise :-)

message 4: by Char (new)

Char | 17389 comments Yes, it would. :)
Scream of Angels does look good though. I don't know how it has escaped my attention.

Some Kind of Fairy Tale is very good. But since you're partial to the horror, I'd recommend Joyce's The Tooth Fairy as a better place to start.

message 12: by Char (new)

Char | 17389 comments I'll check it out. I am partial to horror, but I do love sci-fi and fantasy as well.

1.) UGLY AS SIN, James Newman
BOY'S LIFE, Robert McCammon

Char | 17389 comments You have a nice collection there, Heidi. I need to read that Laird Barron.

message 34: by Heidi (new)

Heidi Ward (battyward) | 103 comments A lot of blue covers, right? Definitely check out Barron -- I'm a huge, unapologetic fangirl. But his short stories, they just bowl me over every time.

message 38: by Kaisersoze (last edited Jan 04, 2014 08:11PM) (new)

Kaisersoze | 294 comments My Top 10 horror reads are here:

It would be different if it was across all genres. For example Red Country by Joe Abercrombie The Lies of Locke Lamora (Gentleman Bastard, #1) by Scott Lynch and The Ten Thousand (The Macht #1) by Paul Kearney would be in there somewhere.

message 39: by Anthony (new)

Anthony Hains | 140 comments The trouble for me is trying to remember what I read this year vs. previous years. This problem has been increasing with age. Sigh.
Excellent horror titles that come to mind (that I think I read this year) in no particular order:
The Cold Spot
The New Flesh
Nightmare Man
Mirror of the Nameless
The Dazzling Darkness
Doctor Sleep
Vampires in the Lemon Grove

Non-horror: Benediction; The President's Club.
There are probably others, but this is just off the top of my head...

Angel Gelique (angelgelique) I wish I'd had more free time to read all of the books I had wanted to read in 2013. Oh well, this year's off to a good start! My five favorite horror reads in 2013 (so hard to choose just five!):

Survivor (I'm adding this one even though I just finished it...I started it in 2013)
Bestial
Product
Run
Don't Need No Water

I didn't consider The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo a horror novel but it did contain some horrific subject matters and was an excellent book.
