Does it seem like some people purposely seek out a book that is clearly not a genre that they prefer just so they can write a negative review?

To me it does seem that - especially when a book becomes very popular - many people who are not the intended target audience give the book a read. And that's fine of course, and what discovering new books is all about! However, I don't find it atall helpful to see negative - and let's face it often scathing verging on nasty - reviews of books I enjoyed as an regular reader of that genre. It's just unnecessary and those kind of reviews I find not atall constructive.
I personally feel that if a particular genre is not your usual cup of tea then this has to be taken into account in the review! Perhaps by acknowledging that you can see how others who enjoy this kind of book would really enjoy the relationship...setting...etc even though you did not?

Hi Kristina. Start a separate thread for your question in this folder. This is just for signing up for a week. Thanks for volunteering!

I completely agree. Those venturing into new genres should take into consideration that what they are reading may turn out to not be their cup of tea. And should display this in their review. If they feel the need to write one at all.
Question of the Week 2014--Doing Something Different!
For the second year of our Question of the Week program, we are changing things up.
Now the members post questions.
How is this going to work?
1. Each month we will have 4-5 members sign up for a week. The member who signs up is responsible for posting the question on Sunday or by Monday evening of that particular week. The following Sunday will be the responsibility of next member who is already signed up for that week.
2. Criteria for questions:
a. Our group is not restricted to 18 or over, so we need to keep the content PG-13 rated.
b. Content can vary, and does not have to be restricted to reading or dangerous heroes. However, due to our general audience, no overtly sexual questions or intensely personal questions allowed. Bigoted, racist, or offensive questions of any kind or those directed at or against particular groups (sexual orientation, ethnic, religious) are not allowed.
c. If the question posted is not suitable, the question will be removed and the member will be contacted by PM by a moderator and offered the opportunity to post a different question.
3. If for some reason, you cannot post a question for the week you sign up, please contact either Pamela (AllHoney), Megan, or Danielle "The Book Huntress" as soon as possible prior to Sunday of that week you are assigned so we can post a question in your stead.
4. Any member who desires to participate by posting a question is more than welcome to sign up.
5. Please start a separate thread for your question in the Question of the Week folder.
6. Any other questions?
